I hate it when someone points out something obvious that I should have known!!! I only have so much skin left on my forehead from slapping it! On that subject, any of you know how to peel a banana? My kid showed me this method a few years ago.... 50 years of fighting bananas! Yeesh!!! Enjoy. :licking: YouTube Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBJV56WUDng

Look at the bright side of it......no one can ever accuse your fore fathers of being Apes or that your family evolved over time from Guerrillas, etc.....because clearly no one passed on the most important trick of opening a banana the right way! ;-)

True evidence of non-evolution and small fighting forces. Thanks!

Thanks Ponytug. Already got the radiator back in. Wasn't to bad getting to the bolts after removing the fan. I plan on checking all nuts and bolts if I ever get it off the mountain. Sent from my iPhone using TractorByNet

Got her running long enough yesterday to drive her off the mountain and trailer her home. Going to start trouble shooting whenever the temperature gets up into the 20's or so. That seems to be happening about every 4 or 5 day between 1 and 2 PM. Where's that global warming when you need it.

I upgraded my wheel motors 2 years ago [long story] and you will see the difference. I use my 1430 most days on the farm and it does a great job. The break is a pain but otherwise it is a great tractor.

My 1430 is about 1.5 years old and probably has the same size hydraulic oil filter. It's on really tight. I use a 5 inch band wrench and it works well. NAPA had the wrench in stock. The rubber seal is pressed into the top plate instead of the filter. It would be much easier for me to replace the seal if it was part of the filter.

Does anyone know if there is a Wix filter that cross references for the PT filter?

Bill

Hey Bill. the serial# on my new 1430 is 21843. Would you mind checking yours and see how it compares to mine? trying to get a handle on how long this tractor has been sitting around in the warehouse. Thanks.

I joined the PT Forum in 2010; today I may have to consider changing my online handle (name) on this forum... :cheerful:

On the downside (as experienced by others with new machines), I soon noticed the first out-of-the-box defect:

IMGP4868.JPG (bad rotation; sorry) IMGP4874.JPG

The above are both front wheels; it appears to be not-so-clean oil seeping out... :sigh: Looks like I'll have to jack this thing up and perform repair/maintenance before the 1st hour is up... I hope to be able to see where the oil is coming from; hopefully just a hose that needs tightening on the wheel motor.

Cheers,

Welcome! I didn't realize that 1430s came with tilt seats!

It may be too late to mention that you don't want to be using the engine or the wheel motors at full throttle or full pressure for the first ten hours.... Given the current temps in your locale, perhaps a little longer...

My guess is that you have some axial leakage out of the wheel motor(s). With luck, the seals will bed down as you use it more. Could I also suggest that you double check the oil level in the tank?

Can I point out that you can use the front end loader to lift the front end, so that you can get jacks under it? :) You probably also want to get the the FEL on supports for more working room, but make sure that they are strong enough. You don't want it coming down while you are working on the wheel motors.

Congratulations on your new PT!!

All the best,

Peter

Thanks Ponytug, advice appreciated; all things I had thought of trying today. (I'm off this week.)

I hadn't thought that the wheel motor seals would need to 'seat' themselves, but a good thought. I may pull the front wheels anyway to try to confirm the origin of the leak. (Will definitely check the tank level as well.)

The oil seeping out might be clean; it might just looks dirty because the rim surface might be dusty...

My left front is leaking also. And that's just sitting idling. I think these tractors have been sitting in the warehouse for some time and seals and such could have dried out. Don't think it's a hose because they are in back of motor.
