Another common remark:

"I just want to get back what I paid for it."

The one that makes me laugh every time I read it is "Invested $XXXXX. Must sacrifice $YYYY."

Folks need to better understand investments vs liabilities.

Another one...."my loss, your gain".

I was looking for a camper , and found lots of ads that all they wanted was "pay off " . So I called a guy with a 8 year old trailer and asked what was his pay off . I figured he needed a couple grand . No , it was a 15 year loan and he put basically nothing down , and payoff was 5000 more than NADA excellent condition . .............. But thats what I owe .

I wouldn't have 15 yr loan on a car that I NEED, and never on a camper that I WANT! Sometimes all people see is the "pay no money now", and don't realize they'll pay more later. Besides my mortgage on the house, The only 2 debts I have are the family car and the tractor, both of which I'll have paid off early within the next 2 or 3 years. Otherwise my theory is if I can't pay it all right now, I don't need it.

I'd generally agree with you, with one exception. When I finance something, I go for the longest term available, as long as the interest rate is the same. I always pay them off early. But the payments are kept small just in case I should want to not pay extra some month. Now if the interest rate is lower on a shorter term, that's another matter. When we bought our house, we went with a 30 year mortgage, but later refinanced at 15 years for a lower interest rate. And when we had no other home, and were full time RVers, we financed a 40' motorhome for 15 years, with a big enough trade-in that we were never upside down in it. And of course we got some equity from it when we sold it a little over 3 years later.

In the WRX/STI world, a car with a stock engine is generally worth more than one modified.

I think it is that way in just about everything auto/truck related

I know that when I was looking for a Suburban for my wife, anything that was modified or lifted was dismissed out of hand.

One thing that kills me are people listing used stuff as a great bargain when it's at retail price.
I've been looking for a good deal on a Job box, like a Knaack 4824.
One was listed recently for $500 "great discount" - a quick google showed the same box from Toolbox.com online price new was $488 W/FREE SHIPPING TO MY HOUSE.
It's like the idiots think we can't look up prices. I don't care WHAT he paid for it. Probably wrote it off on his taxes for $700.

And then there's the guy that advertises and re-advertises the SAME item for years, at the same price. flag them
And the guy that post the title with $1, then in the ad something like $50 FIRM. - flag them

....and they don't let the add run 3-4 weeks until renew..NOOOO they renew it every few days. I keep seeing this local motorhome listed for $119K...looks nice but they've
been relisting it every few days for months. Time to come down on price grandpa.
