44F heading to a high of 65F, no chance of rain through the end of the month, and light winds. Earlier in the week the weather guesser was predicting rain over next weekend, but apparently that's no longer the case. We're still well below normal for this time of year, just as we are way above normal on temperatures. The reservoirs aren't filling and the Sierra snow pack isn't building, and unless we get a March miracle we'll be in even worse shape water wise than last year.
Speaking of dry, spent last weekend in Death Valley with a bunch of air cooled BMW motorcycle fans, camping, riding, seeing the sites. Highs in the mid 80s, 50s lows, light breeze, in other words perfect camping and eating outside weather. I'm guessing 60-80 folks in attendance, with bikes from 1924-1995 (last year of production). Toured Scotty's Castle, including the basement which featured the original Pelton wheel powered generator and facilities for solar water heating. This was updated in the late twenties with Diesel powered generators when the owner installed a full size theater organ that was thirstier than the old Pelton wheel could support. He also installed a battery bank of over a hundred cells to stabilize the current and eliminate flickering lights, all DC power. Then after all this work the government comes along and tells him that he doesn't own the land, and his parcel is actually over a mile away. So he has to fight for six years in the courts to buy his own land again! Sounds a lot like the stories here on TBN. Guess there's nothing new under the sun.
