F250 6.2 V8 vs F150 Ecoboost

The max tow may have different springs. I'm not sure what the max tow package actually includes other than mirrors. The brakes are the same size on all the f150's except some have 7 lug wheels. Nobody ever told me why the ecoboost is rated to tow more than a 5.0. A 5.0 can tow 9300 with 3.73's. The old 5.4 could tow upto 10k. Then if you want get more confused a f-250 with a 6.2 can tow 12k of the bumper. A 2015 f150 can tow upto 12k.

I got to looking at this one time, in particular the F250 due to a friend having one with a 5.4 V8 that he was considering trading, and read where it was "rated" to tow less than my F150. I "know" that shouldn't be right, but is what the charts showed. Crazy. Is things like that that make me wonder if am "overthinking" it.

I have kept holding out, but feel now may be best time to make s change. The guy that has the 2011 has postponed moving to the 2015 until prices come down and I have found that they are running around $9500 off on 2014 XLT's with the 302A packages. Was looking for a Ecoboost, 4wd, Supercrew with Max Tow and 3.73 axle ratio. These are proving to be hard to find. I had convinced myself to move to the cloth seats from the current leather. Was wanting 40/20/40 seats versus buckets like have now. Rest of the family strongly encouraging to stay with leather. Found this truck on local lot with XLT, leather and few upgrades like HID lights and 20" wheels, all that I like. Been reading and talking more on the Ecoboost too about the moisture/condensation/misfire issue. Seems to be a fairly common issue. Overall seems a 50/50 split on Ecoboost versus 5.0 preferred. I will trailer my 5303, 4wd, with FEL with either 8' 3pt disc or MX6 cutter on a 22' bumper pull 3-4 times a year for approximately 30 miles round trip.


Looks like with a trade in I can get in a brand new truck for what I got in my current truck used with 45,000 miles almost 8 years ago with same features. Any reason to be concerned with the 3.55 axle or Ecoboost? Will be daily driver approximately 300 miles per week. All opinions and feedback appreciated!

(Makes the MSRP figure kind of a joke, doesn't it?)

BTW, in my brochure, my truck is rated for towing 7,700 lbs. with the 5.0 V8, and it would have been 9,300 lbs. with the 3.5 V6 Ecoboost, and 11,200 lbs. with the Ecoboost and Max Trailer Towing Package. (Interestingly, the fine print says that those figures include a 150 lb. driver, which of course is a very common weight for most of us F150 owners.:laughing

Ford says that there is a little more than that for the 2015s:

The bolded items are the ones that would seem to me to make a difference when towing.

The 150 lb driver is not a factor for most F150's I've seen. My max tow has a payload sticker on the door of 1835 lbs and a towing capacity of 11,300. Plenty of spare payload with an 1150 lb tongue weight. Leaves me about 700 lbs so I can go the the buffet more often if I choose.

Interesting. Here is a sticker on one that was found in another state that is reportedly no longer available. Notice I believe it states GVWR is 7650.

That one has LT tires on it too. Probably has max payload option.

Looks like the Max Trailer Tow and the Max Payload package have included a transmission cooler for at least the few years:

The HD Payload Package and Max Tow Package BOTH include the following:
- Select-Shift Transmission (since the HD package automatically includes the Trailer Towing package, at least in Canada it does)
- Class IV hitch
- 7-pin wiring harness
- Super Engine Cooling
- Auxiliary Transmission Oil Cooler

We haven't gotten to a bottom dollar price, but one salesman told me they were going $9500 off the sticker. This is the sticker on the one with pictures I attached earlier. You mean all F150 drivers don't tip the scales at 150 lbs???:laughing:

The trucks with a tow package have an auxiliary trans cooler too. IDK if the max tow has a larger cooler or not.

deere5105 - you had mentioned wanting leather seats and having a hard time finding it. If the truck you are looking at now doesn't work out ask the dealers about after market leather. I did that with a used Expedition, all the dealers I talked to said they do it all the time replacing the cloth with leather and adding heat, looks factory and at the time they claimed the leather was better than factory. Cost was ~$1,600 for 3 rows of seats with heat pads installed. Saved a lot of money vs trying to find one that had the leather factory installed.

That looks well equiped. My truck haa P rated tires. You have to get the max payload package to get LT tires. You have to get the 6.5 bed with the Supercrew to get max payload and I didn't want that long of truck.

I have an FX4 with leather now, but they are running around $9500 off on the 302A packages for some reason.

I ordered mine myself. Your LT tires are NOT stock without max payload and yours doesn't have max payload with 5.5 bed. The big mirrors only come with the max tow in the US but can be ordered and installed after build.

Both are nice trucks. I like the one on the right better because of the wheels and console.

Does the truck on the right have a leveling kit? It looks like it sits high in the front for a stock truck. The 302a package was hard to find with a console. I'm not sure if it still is. I guess it comes with leather or is optional with cloth.
