If the price is right and you friend takes care of his stuff get it. Chris
He is meticulous with his stuff. Started out turning wrenches and had worked his way up to running the shop. For the number of these trucks sold, the problems seem small from what I can see. Also see it as an opportunity to possibly avoid any major repair bills and "upgrade" my current truck. Am getting by with my towing needs with what I have and everyone seems to think this would definitely be an upgrade.

Any 09 or newer F-150 with a V8 or Ecoboost would be an upgrade.

The 3/4 tons and 1 tons get very expensive, very fast. Aside from more fuel, the tires, and especially brake parts.

i havn't found my 1 ton diesels to do any worse on fuel and 5.3-5.9 ltr gas engines.

sure.. they aren't like econo cars getting 28mpg.. but those cars don't pull 14k either.

i got rid of a dodge with 5.9 gasser to get a ford 7.3 diesel, and if anything PICKED UP a mile or mile and a half, because the diesel wasn't straining to pull the load like the gasser was.

As for tires. sure.. you have rolling wear, but you also have less weight per square inch.. that factors a bit. then you have to add in the less tangible benifits like increased stability and stopping power from bigger brakes and more rubber. while hard to measure that at the pocket book at the end of the week, for the 'safety feel', it was worth it, at least for some of us. I think if you tow more often, or tow larger, it factors more. a weekender might not see it..

so for sure it's a real subjective topic. not a 1 size fits all. each of us has to look at our application and see if it's worth it. for some it may blow the bottom out of the bucket.. for others it might be like sliced bread.

I meant a 3/4 or 1 ton gas engine mpg. Where I live, a 10,000 truck can not get personal plates. So, I have to get commercial plates on a personal vehicle. And commercial plates get renewed every year, not every other. On top of that, I have to get a commercial window sticker. Not $35 like car. $135...Id avoid all that with half ton. I think there is a big crowd like me who needs a truck that -can- tow, maybe not regularly.

here in florida they make us 1-ton owners renew in december like commercial trucks, but so far that's about the only hassle.

i think too many rv'rs and horse farms for them to crack down much harder.. ..... yet..

I have kept holding out, but feel now may be best time to make s change. The guy that has the 2011 has postponed moving to the 2015 until prices come down and I have found that they are running around $9500 off on 2014 XLT's with the 302A packages. Was looking for a Ecoboost, 4wd, Supercrew with Max Tow and 3.73 axle ratio. These are proving to be hard to find. I had convinced myself to move to the cloth seats from the current leather. Was wanting 40/20/40 seats versus buckets like have now. Rest of the family strongly encouraging to stay with leather. Found this truck on local lot with XLT, leather and few upgrades like HID lights and 20" wheels, all that I like. Been reading and talking more on the Ecoboost too about the moisture/condensation/misfire issue. Seems to be a fairly common issue. Overall seems a 50/50 split on Ecoboost versus 5.0 preferred. I will trailer my 5303, 4wd, with FEL with either 8' 3pt disc or MX6 cutter on a 22' bumper pull 3-4 times a year for approximately 30 miles round trip.

Looks like with a trade in I can get in a brand new truck for what I got in my current truck used with 45,000 miles almost 8 years ago with same features. Any reason to be concerned with the 3.55 axle or Ecoboost? Will be daily driver approximately 300 miles per week. All opinions and feedback appreciated!

Go for it! I wanted the eco-boost as well, but they were all gone by the time I made my deal in October, so I had to settle for the 5.0 V8. Now, however, if I had to do it again - I would get the 5.0! It has gobs of power, a lovely roar when you punch it, and amazing gas mileage on the highway (under 12 litres per 100 km.). And the 302A package is just great. Leather, the wheels, and the HID lites I can do without, but hey, it's your truck! Good luck to you, and I really like the Silver colour. (Mine is white - my wife insisted.)

Go for it. My Fathers and Uncles Ecoboost trucks both have 3.55 gears and mine has 3.73 gears. I really can't feel the difference. None of us 3 Ecoboost owners have had any issues.

Personally, I don't believe nuances in gears are as big a deal as they used to be...3:08 vs 373 sure but, 3:42 vs 3:73 not so much in my experience. 3:73 is certainly better but not as much as it used to be.
