Jump Pack for Diesels

/ Jump Pack for Diesels #21
I've had the need for a jump pack many times before. I stopped at a local diesel shop and asked what they used on the rigs they service.
This is the model they recommended:Amazon.com: Jump-N-Carry JNC950 2000 Peak Amp 12V Jump Starter: Automotive
I was going to say the Magic Word of jump packs: Clore.

I have a Clore JNC660 and it would do the job for you. They are routinely used to start diesel trucks. It's 18 lbs vs 34 and $135 versus double that.

I keep it in the [heated to 50 F] house versus the garage. They will work when cold but they work a lot better warm. I also put in my calender to recharge it every month, though it usually doesn't need it.

I have had little luck finding clamps that pass that much voltage.

Wow that was quick. I'll be standing by for a review once you get to use it

It sure was, I ordered it from Amazon and had free 2 day shipping, I was quite surprised that it showed up a day early.
But I guess it makes up for the xmas order of a archery peep site that I ordered that ended up taking 2 weeks to ship from NY.

I'll be sure to review it once it get some use.

You can jump start directly from the Honda and Yamaha inverter generators. You have to buy the Honda cable, the Yamaha comes with it.

Something isn't working correctly if you have to keep cranking a diesel. All diesels I've ever owned start instantly after about 1/2 turn of the crankshaft, even after sitting for 9 months. This is IF you let the glow plugs work the proper amount of time. New type glow plugs need about 6 seconds in pre chamber engines and about 2 seconds in direct injection engines. Older glow plugs needed 30 seconds to a minute and a half to work (at -20 F).

Glow it the proper amount of time, and you won't need to crank it but about 1/2 turn.

I got the same (JNC660) for my B.D. Mine said to charge every 90 days. Clore even has an email sign up for charge reminders. I charged it and put it in the truck, no need to use yet.

Jumping to boost start a diesel tractor from a portable inverter generator? Not likely as the current is limited to 10amps iirc.
