I got chains up front and will be getting rear chains next year. Was going to be this year but the snow blower ate that $$ up. Well worth it, 2 passes and I was done!
Glad to hear your satisfied with your new equipment. I keep having that running out of $$ problem also. What size are your rear tires? I saw a set of ice chains for 16x 28 tires in Craigslist the other day for $350. Are your rear tires loaded? with the blower down working it doesn't help with traction so with ice underneath you could pick it up and get to the snow but then not be able to advance into it working. Once you get it all chained up you will have an awesome snow fighting setup.

I wanted a small machine that dug with a good amount of power. The backhoe is strong I live in a rocky woods and the B26 maneuvers very well in tight areas. The key is to respect your machine. Keep your load as low as possible. I even drag the clamp bucket is sometimes. Always keep one hand on the bucket control when loaded. Know that if something goes wrong down with the bucket is the direction you want to go. Never let go of that control when loaded. This machine has lived up to everything I wanted it to do. It is powerful and perfect for my 16 acres. A larger machine would not be as useful.

This is getting nuts. It was -15 in Lake Placid all week. It'll be -15 in Nh tonight and -2 in Boston, and everyone is like, "Meh."

Ayup -17F this morning and still easing down a bit ahead of dawn. It is long cold winters like this that freeze out those invasive species that keep trying to move up from the south. May every emerald ash borer in Vermont freeze to death tonight.

-21F temp might drop couple degrees at day break.
Roads have real good speed bumps...frost heaves, cold weather into March should drive the frost down more, hope not to the point water starts seeping from the ground.

It is about time to start the "Worst frost heave in New England contest." All the usual suspects have showed up plus some new ones. Old number 67 just south of Tunbridge village on VT 110 is in fine form justifying its steel post mounted permanent bump sign. And lets not talk about VT113 from Chelsea to Thetford after all the money the taxpayers spent on it recently.
