Good Morning all.
-24*F here in NB this dawn, more snow to night. Hard winter on the deer and moose. DNR say we lost 60% of the herd this winter and 40% last winter. Helicopter on the news with footage of moose walking in snow up to his shoulders.
Snowmobile guys are out roaring around in the woods and exhausting the critters trying to flee. Can you believe them city folks are so numb between the ears?.
Got my tractor window fixed yesterday. Only 240$...not so bad as I thought.
I must remember to keep my cockles warm today uptown to get my hearing aids fixed.

Had plenty enuff winter yet?...............:yuck:

That can't be from Kubota, if it is, it must be a small flat window.

I call ******** on that. While it is pro forma for locals to assume that visitors are idiots, those idiots are going to stick to the trails.

It's the locals in the woods, more often then not.

Just rescued a Damsel in distress. The middle daughter called. Daddy my new car won't start. It just goes click and I need to get to work. Well it was -20 at dawn and has only got back up to an even zero. Anyway on with the boots coat and hat. fire up the Nissan and up the hill to her house. As soon as we got the jumper cables on it it fired right up. I'll bet she won't be ten mintes late. :)

Good for you! Now to figure out why.....
On a new car it could have been that the car had some circuit turned on that drained the battery overnight, or it could be that the battery itself can't hold a charge in cold weather. Cold weather performance is the first thing to suffer when a battery gets near the end of its useful life.

I would like a dollar for every battery replaced when the alternator belt was loose..... We have an Optima Red Top [AGM] in the Outback and it has worked very well in cold temps.

Because I go motorcycle camping when it can get cold, I bought one of those Lithium jump starters/"Personal Power Supplies." We've used it to start cars a number of times. The battery itself weighs less than a pound - pretty amazing gadget.

We have this one, but I now recommend the jump pack from EarthX which has a LiFeP04 battery.

I got chains up front and will be getting rear chains next year. Was going to be this year but the snow blower ate that $$ up. Well worth it, 2 passes and I was done!

I'm thinking of a snow blower for next year. What kind did you get and will it fit my tractor?

A few years ago, I removed both batteries from my Dodge Cummins diesel and replaced them with a single Optima Red Top. We don't get New Hampshire cold, but it was 4 below last night 20 plus miles from DC.

You'd think with all the hot air and rotting Bravo Sierra coming from the White House and Congress we'd be downright tropical around here, but no!

It's never had trouble starting. I plug it in most of the time, not because it won't start, but if I dont I won't have heat for about 40 minutes!

The big deal is that now the single Red Top costs as much as the two batteries, did not start out that way.

Just a thought

George

I bought the Red Tops because of light weight: 32lbs versus 45. For maximum starting power, I prefer the Odyssey AGM's, also sold as the Sears Diehard Platinum. They are heavier but much higher capacity.

The building in the background of this picture is the Massachusetts State Police barracks in Andover, MA.....

Another vote for Red Tops. We've had them in most everything here for 20 years....tractors, boats and trucks. Cost twice as much, but last much longer than traditional batts. We've tried the the yellow top and blue top versions too....but haven't seen any advantage over the regular Optima Red Top.
