Is the switch mechanical or electrical? What is the connection between the switch (located under the clutch) and the brake pedal (i.e. how does the switch know that the brake pedal is moving)?
Now let’s talk about your starter-
The 12 volts to activate the starter comes into the starter mechanism through the small terminal on the Starter Solenoid.
Where does that wire from that small terminal go?
If it goes directly to the start switch on the tractor panel, I would say that there is no Starter Interrupt Switch. Note: I have no knowledge of the type mentioned earlier in this thread that mentions some type of sensor related to the transmission.
My 284 has an Interrupt Switch -in case this helps you:
There is a wire (#10 pink/white) that feeds 12 volts from #4 terminal on the starter switch to an electrical Interrupt Switch under the clutch pedal arm. When the clutch is depressed, it presses a ‘button’ on the Interrupt Switch. This causes the circuit inside the Interrupt Switch to close. This then sends the 12 volts on through a wire (#11 red) to the small terminal on the Starter Solenoid which activates the starter.
Regarding your question about wires from a sensor on the bell-housing. I have one of those and it sends readings to the tachometer. If your tach is working, disconnect those wires and see if it still works.
