That's the problem,:confused3: need a good easy accessible spot that will not be in the way or going to get blocked in the future.
How high is that crossmember?

Yeah, I'm guessing It will get moved at least once.. just bought the place and I'm trying to get it all useable, added a barn, pool going in in a couple weeks, probably an addition on the house, yada yada yada.. If I have to move a pair of 4x4's no biggie, I got me a new post hole digger right?

I do not know, never measured it. I set the height by having the PHD fully raised, and then marked the posts to be cut allowing for the top of the cross beam to be 2 inches lower.

Thats about the measurement I was looking for.. allows for differing tractor sizes..

Should cost under$20. Been holding my PHD for 10 years.

Not to hijack, but where did you get the down force kit from?. Also do you hook up and lift before removing the cross beam?

Just wondering.

All attachments are done with the beam holding the weight, then the implement is raised up.

Down force kit is from Land Pride.

After herniating a disk in my back (again) hitching up my PHD to bury one of the wife's chickens, I took drastic action.

Cut the PHD apart & rebuilt it so it mounts to my 3pt quick hitch. Only works if you have a hydraulic toplink.

I haven't run it yet & I'm almost finished painting it, but the snow & cold will probably prevent that for several more weeks. It should end up giving me down pressure via the toplink for at least the top part of the hole too. While I was at it I put a bracket on so I can mount a 100-200lbs chunk of scrap pipe directly over the gearbox.

My build is at the end. Few more brackets on it now, primed & half painted industrial yellow as well.

I thought one of those quick hitch gizmos would hook up to anything .. no?

A PHD is one of the few 3pt implements intrinsically not compatible with a quick hitch. A quick hitch has the toplink integrated more or less. A PHD doesn't use a toplink at all as the boom connects directly to the tractor for leverage.

In a PHD 1' of 3pt movement yields significantly more than 1' of movement at the gearbox. With my QH PHD 1' of 3pt movement makes for exactly 1' of movement at the gearbox. However I can use the hydraulic toplink to get the missing height I need that I lost.

Just 2 PT 4x4s stuck in the ground 30". Those were the first holes that I dug with the PHD.

Remove the top cross beam, back up, stick the beam in the saddles, lower implement. Pull drive shaft and pins. Disconnect hydraulic lines, drive away. Typically takes about 5 minutes to attach or remove this implement. Easily done with one person, no help required, or even wanted for that matter. ;)

Well out of all the set ups I've seen, yours was the most appealing. No straps or chains or anything just a simple design.. so I did mine just like it.

The uprights are 8' posts in the ground 3 feet.. makes the rig about 3-6" short and the boom end sits on the ground. Like I said I will probably eventually move it to a different location and I'll make it taller, for now I'll get a cement block to keep the boom off the ground.

It unhooked very easily, if it hooks up as nicely it will be great!
