Homemade trencher digging a ditch for cables

Earlier I posted a video on how to setup the homemade trencher on the tractor bucket http://youtu.be/nh_mYjWfJeY. I found this "new" footage while working on another video related to installing a security camera. This video shows the trencher getting bent up going through the rough ground. I now have a heavier piece of angle on standby for the next trench.

Why not use a subsoiler or middle buster? Looks like it's making a rough cut that will need cleaning up by hand but,if it works for you who am I to judge.

I once had a nice trench dug by a ditch witch, that a 100 ton crane drove closely along before I got my cables installed. A friend had leant me an old JD TLB to which I mounted a piece of channel to the bucket by drilling holes in the hoe bucket (glad I don't have friends like that!). that was just to open the trench, not to make a new one from scratch. I popped those 1/2" bolts off like they were nothing. Seems I seriously underestimated the forces involved.

I think I ended up doing most of it by hand. Used a hoe and a steel formed type of box on a handle that I scaped the dirt into and removed from the trench.

It's not something I do everyday and this rig is basically free, easy to set up, and actually fun to use

Lots of forces involved for sure - you can see those rocks "smoking" all the time but I can tell by the feel that the BX is well within its comfort range

Nice job . Looks like it works better than a claw on the backhoe . You have a few rocks there also . Not as many as we have here but this is the " rock " . I bought a post hole digger and a box blade for mine but haven't used it yet . Too many rocks here . I do use the pallet forks I bought all the time . The kubota BX is a good machine .

Before I got the BX I dug fence post holes with a fairly heavy duty rented rig like this one here http://youtu.be/y45iIkkQxWkIt was not much use in digging through the "soil" and rocks. In most all cases I couldn't get down deep enough and most all posts loosened-up. After a big wind storm - some even blew over. After I got the BX I dug down by these weak posts and installed 4x4 struts angled and bolted to the posts. No problem since. Now, as I continue with my fence building I dig down 30-36 inches with the BX and, where necessary, I add portland cement to the backfill for extra solidity.

It amazes me having a backhoe you would still resort to this. It makes a mess, a crappy trench, and puts a tremendous strain on the front end loader in a manner it's not really designed for. If you want to do that, put the angle on a 3-point mount facing forward, at a steeper angle.
