I have often wondered if autism was at all related to illegal drug use, paticuarly marijuana. You dont know what chemicals the weed you buy has been treated with.

I know there are probably non drug users that have autistic kids. And drug users that have normal kids. Maybe the occurence with drug users is higher?

But i wonder if it is chemicals or something?

My impression is that the causes aren't understood. The CDC lists some possibilities.

Most scientists agree that genes are one of the risk factors that can make a person more likely to develop ASD.

ASD tends to occur more often in people who have certain genetic or chromosomal conditions, such as fragile X syndrome or tuberous sclerosis.
When taken during pregnancy, the prescription drugs valproic acid and thalidomide have been linked with a higher risk of ASD.
There is some evidence that the critical period for developing ASD occurs before, during, and immediately after birth.
Children born to older parents are at greater risk for having ASD.

Speaking of marijuana, we do know that juvenile arrests for its possession have led to a decline in honey bee colonies. Or is it the other way around?

I like Mother Earth just fine, and I spray with Roundup. I just do it with a hand sprayer and target the poison ivy plants individually, not broadcast. Takes a while, but I don't waste any spray on things that I don't want to kill, and I only kill what I want dead.

God do I hate poison ivy! Have a horrible reaction to the stuff, and it can be found throughout my 15 acres, except the lawn areas that are routinely mowed. Had a real rude awakening to the reality of it a couple years ago when the the urushiol (oils) got all over my hat, and ran down my face for several days in the summer while working outside and sweating ... Almost swelling my eyes shut. Didn't realize immediately what was going on, but it was a great cause for further study. The joke at my house is that I'd be rich if I could harvest and sell it!

I did some hand spraying (backpack) last year and saw some improvement on the areas that I sprayed, but I need to spend DAYS and dollars this year doing that again.

Consistent with what I've read about PI, it is definitely more prevalent at clearing edges and woods edges... But it is also very invasive and pervasive under my spruce tree lines (100+ large spruces in rows).

I find mowing it really irritates me, especially since my zero turn really dices up and throws fine material into the air.

So I'm hoping that targeted aggressive spraying will help this year...

As somebody works closely with the EPA and chemical companies in the reglation of pesticides I can assure you that health wise glyphosate is about as safe as they come. One of the many reasons it's so common.

Now for poison ivy control I'd want another AI in there with the glyphosate like triclopyr and 2,4-d.

I've never had issues with mowing it as long as I was my clothes and take shower right after.

I am susceptible to poison ivy, but happily, have not had problems with the bush hog and cutting the cursed plant!
