I've been doing a lot of research, read all the threads I could find and have narrowed my decision down to a 2820D and 2210D both with loaders from Fredericks. I do realize that the 2820D is quite a bit heavier, but the question as many have posed is will I need the extra HP and weight? I do have a challenge as I will likely be moving periodically from my 15AC property to my home and I do not have a real easy means to do so with the 2820, but may have a workaround for that. Are there any parts availability that owners of the 2820D have experienced? I've read that the 2210D is pretty bullet-proof and there is good parts availability. Is non power steering manageable on a 2210D? What max size bush hog would be recommended? Some folks suggest a 6' bush hog may run ok on the 2210D, but to me may be pushing it... Any thoughts would be appreciated.

My 2 cents says 5' maximum rotary cutter with a 2210. If money was not a big consideration I would jump at the 2820D. I can tell you from experience you will enjoy the power steering with a loader. Just my opinion, no facts.

Fredricks sells an aftermarket power steering kit for about $800. You can always add that later. The 2820 sounds sweet!

It would to get PS..either add on or factory... I would go with the heavier more HP 2820... Do you need more HP ?? Only you know that answer...

1 thing about it, With the 2820, the HP is there if you do need it.

I can run a 5 foot bush hog on my ym2000. i dont think 2 more horse power would allow you to go up to a 6footer though. In really short grass sure you could do it but in anything that you would actually be bushhogging i dont think you will be productive, and a 5fter costs a good bit more and is not as common as 5fter.

My tractor will turn the 5fter in normal grass and even slightly overgrown stuff that you bushhog, but get really thick and or really tall and i have to take 4 foot bites. Heck even my 4ft bush hog in really thick stuff in 7th gear will bog up. yes i can mow in 7 out of 8 gears usually with the 4footer. but pretty much every gear on the Low side is too slow to mow in.

How far is the house from the property. If you would move the tractor there once a year or something or just once just drive it. thats cheaper than a trailer or you can rent a car hauler from Uhaul to move it and then return it.

I own a trailer but the plan was to move it to my house at least once a year for chores or maintence. And my acerage is a three hour trip so there is no roading the tractor.

I'll be getting the JD. out this weekend. Grading and BB. a Gravel Dr. It's 55hp. with a FEL. I've used it for over 8yrs. 0n 35 acres and with that being said I know how well a FEL. works on it. And still to the day I won't even consider a FEL. on my Ym2000. It's basically the same as the 2210 just 2 eng. hp. Less. That's probably not even noticeable unless your working it to it's Max. Capability's. And Still Doubtful esp. if it has the P.shift Trans. It's not designed for a FEL. 4wd. or 2wd. IMO. It's comical to see the way there built. Just in the Front End. And a lot of reasons that people prefer the 4wd on the Yanmar's isn't just for Traction it's how the Front End is built. Your see! The JD. is only 2wd. also In Ga. I've never needed 4wd. or even gotten it stuck for that matter. I'm Orig from WV. lived in OH. and MD. In VA. and the Winter snow the 4Wd. is a big plus and almost a necessity. But the Ym2000 really shines with the 5.FM, 4.BH. and a Tiller that I really enjoy using it. P steering on the JD a must. I lost over 40 per. of my R arm. so a lot of movement is difficult. so again if your using Fel. P. steerings a big plus. :2cents:

I have a 5 ft med. duty cutter.. When the grass gets real thick, I have to slow down or take smaller bites..

You can get a tractor without PS . My bet is, with loader, you'll add PS . If it's still an option

I have all the parts for power steering but have not found the time to install. There are times when the bucket is full that I wish it was installed. I have a bad shoulder and muscling the steering is taking its toll. I plan on doing a write up on it when I do. I bought the complete kit from hoye

Forget a 2210 without PS if you will use the loader very much.

My use of the loader on the YM240 (YM2000) is very occasional and its a PIA if I'm carrying any substantial weight. Last weekend I put the tiller on a pallet and carried it on loader forks down to a storage area. Anything more than a very gradual turn required that I stop, lift the front of the tractor with the loader, turn the front tires to the new direction I wanted to go, then lift the load again to resume the trip. This method of 'steering' isn't very productive if you will use the loader all day for heavy stuff - gravel etc.
