All four of mine are ballasted with ethylene glycol and water. Its the most stable tractor I have ever found, have yet to see another so stable.

I thought with Ag and farms, that tractor tires are to be ballast with Propylene Glycol and water. The PG coolant was designed to be pet and livestock safe along with not contaminating the soil if it leaked. If you do go for new rubber, look into the PG coolant. :)

My neighbor has a JD650 with a FEL. He can take that tractor up the steepest hills without lifting the front wheels off the ground. Of course he has the low profile turf tires on it too with a rear JD PTO driven mower deck. Is your JD650 similar?

But EG is cheaper and what most use on the non commercial side.

I have winter winshield washer fluid in mine as it was cheaper still. I used online coupons and was thinking i got it for just over a dollar a gallon from Advance auto parts?

Its methonol

You are correct, the appropriate glycol for ballast would be propylene. But, this was put in in 1982 and I did not know that then and I had easy and inexpensive source of ethylene glycol. Today, beet juice is preferred; if you can get it. I have no front end loader. I had a back hoe for a while. I do have the large Pillow Dia tires and it is a real goat on these WV hills. I know if no other compact utility that compares in that regard unless you go to the articulated ones like Ventrac (which I am currently considering)$$,$$$.cc ;-)

With the type of PTO clutch the JD 650 has, brush hog and rear end finish mowing is not easy and is hard on the tractor. Why they did not use a two stage clutch or independent pto is beyond me. That flaw and the fact that I could never keep a voltage regulator working on it are the only bad mouthing I can do about the whole set-up. I use a combination deep cycle - starting battery and simply put it on a Deltran tender when the work is done, thus the alternator is simply a pulley for the fan belt. I use 60" MMM, 4' tiller, 8' grader blade, rear platform lift, medium duty rear finish mower (seldom), and log splitter. I always wanted a Bush Hog PT5 boom sickle bar which is a perfect match for small tractors, but it was way expensive and they quit making it, so parts will dry-up there too.

I think your alternator or Regulator has issues. You have a yanmar motor and i dont know of anyone else on here that has not been able to fix electrical issues on thier tractor?

There are now many solid-state VRs for the Yanmar and JD machines these days. Several of the Yanmar gray suppliers have them. It would be a good upgrade. Otherwise, the tender method works just fine.

I have both Regulators Old and New Style. Found the problem not long after I bought it. The Chrg. light would randomly start to flash. Took a bit of testing but I finally found it. Just a loose and bad connection on the back of the fuse panel. After I found it I decided to check the Old Reg. and sure enough it works fine.
