I installed it in 2 pickup trucks. After 60 days my driving grade on both is A- ... One truck shows a projected 15% savings and the other a 17% savings.

All my grades are A's except the time of day driving B

I'd not heard of that. I guess as long as you keep an unregistered honky-tonk runner, you should be fine. :D

After carrying Allstate insurance for 40 years, they came out, took pictures of my house and told me that if I didn't trim my trees and put on a new roof, they were going to cancel my insurance. I put on a new roof, trimmed my trees and cancelled my insurance myself...went to a private agency and saved a bundle on both my house and cars.

Allstate did that to a woman my wife works with... I went with an Independent agent yrs ago... Instead of me calling around every few yrs checking rates, he does it for me

I believe progressive insurance has the same thing... They call it snap shot

Allstate did not do that to a woman your wife works with ... you gotta request it.

I think kenmac was referring to the way Allstate treated one of its homeowner's policyholders.

We put Progressive's version in our car. They call it "snapshot". We got it in early November. After 3 weeks it projected we'd get a 15% discount. Then came the snow... Any time the wheels spun, it registered unnecessary acceleration. Any time they locked up it thinks you're braking too hard.

I've been driving in snow my whole life (since I was 16 anyway), and I know how to do it. Sometimes you have to spin the tires a little when you're trying to get up the hill. Obviously not spinning is better, but you have to find that edge of where you lose traction but are still putting power down. Same with braking, when you get in the car for the first time on new road conditions, you gotta find out how slick they are. Hitting the brakes is how you do that. Anyway, the device didn't take any of that into account and we didn't get any discount. If we could get the device in mid-April and keep it for 6 months, maybe we could make it work. I suggested they reactivate our device and we could try again. They said we had to send it in and get a new one, so I said forget about it.

I was stopped at an intersection when someone rear ended me and caused a 4 car accident. The person who caused it was with Allstate. Allstate tried to pay only for the damage to the rear of my truck even though the truck was totaled. In the end, they paid for the whole truck but that company was made up of nothing but assholes. I would never, ever, ever, ever be a customer of Allstate. Without a doubt I know they would screw you the first time you have a claim.

As for the drive wise....total invasion of privacy. They may claim it only monitors driving habits but I would wager big money it also has a GPS and tracks everywhere you go. No thanks.

Maybe she requested they come out, look at her trees and threaten cancellation if she didn't trim them.

I am now using RightTrack by Liberty Mutual for 2 months, 24 days to go. Interesting read out on-line, shows a lot of rapid starts and sudden deceleration. Shows 11% discount.

I have State Farm, and they have offered this same sort of thing to me, but I have declined.

I can see the day when it is mandatory.

Thank you for that revelation. Of course one would have to be an Allstate customer to have drivewise...or am I wrong about that too? Oh, and FYI, someone may have requested it, but it wasn't me.

Well, according to her. They sent around an inspector to check out her roof ,and other Allstate customers in the area... She says Allstate told her that she & others in her area, needed to replace their roofs ,and she would have some trees cut that were too close to her house ,or they were going to cancel her HO.. Said she had no idea why they came around inspecting homes in her area..

The agent has relatives in roofing and tree trimming business?

Who knows?

It does make a sort of sense to inspect insured properties. That should result in lower claims and lower rates (or more slowly rising rates) for all--not to mention more profit for Allstate. For example, if a roof deteriorates and leads to interior water damage claims, that is to a large extent avoidable. So are over mature trees crashing through a roof in a storm.

I'm not an allstate customer. But no I don't and won't use one of those devices. I don't like an insurance agency spying on me.

My dad put my truck and me on his insurance when I started driving and when he gave the pickup to me on my 18th Birthday.

Well I started driving when I was 16 and that's when I got my learners permit in Arkansas.

I haven't had any accidents since I got my learners permit. Been driving for 11 years now without a single accident and my insurance rates have been dropping. They've gave me discounts for no accidents. And a bonus they give me discounts for being on the same policy as my dad who has many vehicles insured with them.

We're with State Farm and the rates are pretty reasonable. I would never install one of those doo hickies in my vehicle. It'd probably make me have an accident then my rates would go up and not down.

Oh and as much as I try too. MY dad WILL NOT let me give him a penny for my insurance on my truck. He INSISTS on paying for it. lol

When I try to give him money for it. He tells me I do a lot for him and my mom. I told him I'm not expecting pay for the things I do for them. I'd help them out anyway. I told him I love helping them out.

Then he said. I love helping you out too. "even if you're grown" you're still my son and I'll always be there for you.

And I'll always be there for them.

Allstate looks at mileage, time of day, braking and speed. I've not seen or read anything about acceleration.

I think thats pretty standard with any insurance company (made up of acse holes) As for invasion of privacy ... everytime we use our cell phones or GPS we are being tracked ... maybe even if we don't use the cell phone they know where we are!!

Every couple years someone from Allstate shows up to inspect an give tips on how to better protect and save money on premiums
