Pocket knives: number of back springs

At the granddaddy Bass Pro in Springfield, they offer a knife sharpening service using a compressed cardboard wheel and jewelers rouge. After the blades are honed they then will polish the tarnish off the chrome or brass ends.

When I know I am heading that way, I always grab my assortment of knives, lube their respective actions and then take them to the masters for sharpening and beautification.

I can sharpen my own, but it's kinda like visiting the shoeshine man...one of life's little pleasures.

Knives? Belt carry a Craftsman single blade folder. Big honking knife. Lifetime warranty. I am on my second replacement. Have more Case knifes than I can remember - all types (too many Case factory outlet stores in Missouri ). My hunting knife is a Gerber....talk about surgical steel sharp!!

Benchmades for me. Almost bought a full automatic (switchblade) last time I was in Oregon, but I like the standard axis-lock because I can open and close it one handed. I have a Osborne 943 and 950. Don't leave home without one.

This Buck is my favorite all around knife. I use it for electrical, cedar shingling, etc. I have 3. Only one with the 100 yr emblem. I like the real wood handle and the brass. Tarnished it looks as good as shiny!

Warren Osborne is on my deer lease. Heck of a nice gentleman. Have you ever looked at his website and seen some of the custom knives he's made? Incredible artistry. Some of them sell for $1000's of dollars.

I've never seen his site before, thanks for the link. Next time you cross paths, tell him I'm very happy with the knives I have that he designed. I think his reverse-tanto style works really well and is very stylish.

Buck makes 2 like that. Model 110? and another one I can't remember right now. I used to have the long one but when I got the shorter of the 2 I decided I liked it a lot better. Actually, I think (I know) I like it tarnished better than shiny (the brass, not the blade)! One of my favorites.

I know I've always had one in my pocket since I was 6 years old in the first grade. But fortunately, I've not had to fly on a commercial airline since they started their silly so-called security.

Wow, you guys start early down there. My mother wouldn't let me have a pocket knife until I was in Cub Scouts (8 y/o). She also wouldn't let me take SCUBA lessons until after Red Cross Senior Lifesaving. Like that would've stopped me! I talked her into concurrent. Talk about an abused child!!!

I have flown, put it in the checked baggage.
