I went with my father in law today to look at a Ford 2000 that was for sale at a very low price. He had it delivered to his house an hour later. It has a bad seal leak dripping out of drain hole in the bottom of the bell housing that he should replace, the right brakes and meter does not work, but other than that, the old tractor seems to be in pretty fair condition. I looked up the serial number and it is listed as a mid 1963 model, 4 cylinder gas burner with 4 speed transmission, PTO and lift. He's seems pleased as this is quite a step up for him from his Ns he has been used to using. He don't garden anymore, but does like having a tractor around to lift stuff with his boom pole to move around, occasionally level his driveways and bush hog.

His grandson wrecked his 8N last year and he has been complaining about wanting another tractor to replace it ever since and finally found this one he was willing to part with his money for.

How bad? Was it at least a good story? Nice tractor, by the way...

The boy is lucky to be alive. Well not a boys, they're over 30 years old, but one broke a few ribs is all with a short hospital stay. They borrowed their grandfather's 8N tractor to pull up some roots and sapplings for their mother who lives near him. Grandpa found out later the boys tied their chain to the top link pin and took a running start at pulling and quickly flipped the old tractor over. The tractor was brought back bent and broke, but no one ever offered to fix it or replace it. He was mad at himself for letting them take the tractor without him supervising, then he was pissed at them that no one did anything about repairing it.

He said today that no one is using this tractor. I feel privileged that he asked me to test drive it today. It is far from pristine, but a few seals and a brake job would help.

Brakes on that model are just like the 8n, so check adjustment, may just need a few clicks to have brakes.

Leak fro bell housing could be rear main or trans input shaft, or both.

Proof meter drive is off the nose of the hyds pump. Could be meter, cable, or drive end.

That 134 city red tiger is a great engine design. Very robust.

Spin on oil filter is a fl1a, from ph8a, Napa 1452 or just about any cross to those.

I reccomend 15w40 oil for most climates. UTC can be put in Hyds, diffy, and trans, plus PS had it been equipped.

PS, uses same plugs as that 8n, and same points if the n was a side mount, same cap, and codensor, again, if the n was a side mount.

Don't forget to service the oil bath air filter.
