I recently purchased a Kubota here in New Brunswick. It had to come from another dealer and when it arrived it was white with salt. I asked about tarping it when they delivered it to my house 2 hours away. The dealer said they never tarp them. When it arrived it was really clean. They had washed it at the dealership and it was cold and sunny the roads were relatively dry on delivery day. 2 months later I'm not seeing any ill effects. It does suck though having something brand new not be in pristine condition when you take delivery. But at the same time when I purchase new vehicles it's in June/July, not February. That's really the only way you're going to get anything home without getting covered in salt in our neck of the woods. I personally don't think having it covered in salt once and then washed off will hurt anything much.

You're correct . . a 2 hour trip and then washed immediately should have much less effect . . but those weren't his conditions . . it was hauled apparently a longer distance and then allowed to sit.

Those who think its no different than a car are forgetting a car or truck is designed exactly for high speed street travel . . a tractor isn't. Cars and trucks are now all "dipped" in galvanize coating/platings. Remember when they weren't:)

I just got a call from the dealer.I told him I looked at the tractor over the weekend and wasn't really impressed with it.He said he talked to the owner of the business and was told to do what was necessary to make me happy with it.He said the tractor was only given a quick cleaning because they are so busy and would be completely gone over when they have time. The PDI is not a priority because I told him I don't want it.He will let me know when it is ready, probably a couple of weeks, and I will have a look at it and decide if I want it.I mentioned him selling it to someone else.He said it's not an easy model to sell but he has a customer looking for an L39 so he will see if he is interested.I asked twice if I HAD to buy the tractor but didn't really get a clear answer. He did assure me that I won't lose my trade-in money but until a final decision is made we agreed to leave it as is.I guess for now everything is on hold until the tractor is prepared for sale, either to me or someone else.He did mention if I get a new one the price will be about 5% more.I told him I may not bother purchasing another tractor at all. This whole process is more hassle than it should be.

It's good you got everything out on the table with the dealer and the balls in your court now.

I'd be annoyed but it wouldn't keep me from buying it. If they clean it up well tell them you'll take it if they refund 1/2 the shipping.

Some points about the comments. The tractor sat on the lot in Quebec since last October. There is some rust on the grey painted bottom area of the tractor.A lot of the other corrosion is on parts that are not painted but just have some sort of coating on them. There is also rust on various parts all over the machine, even the chromed seat belt latch. As far as I could tell the orange painted areas all looked good.I asked, after the fact, about tarping and was told it would cause damage to the finish from flapping around. As to paying for shipping it is my understanding that all purchasers pay for shipping,it is just normally included in the price. If I was buying this machine to work it commercially I wouldn't be too concerned but it is just a toy for me and I want it in new condition, right or wrong.
from your description there is a possibility that some of this weathering was caused before the tractor was transported. Being on the other dealers lot since last October,
and who knows where the tractor originated, it has been around for some time, and i'm sure never under cover. Just sitting out beside a road in front of a dealer
lot can be close enough to get salt spray from traffic. Not to mention just sitting outside in the weather.
Hopefully the dealer can make things right and save everybody some more headache. fittings/couplers etc can be replaced if need be, and painted surfaces could
always be touched up. I have seen corrosion on seat belt chrome, along with other misc hardware on new equipment happen from sitting out in the weather.

Your dealer should of washed the tractor, tarped and delivered it. Did they even do the inspection before delivery?

After negotiating with my local dealer about a new L45 I decided to get one.The only way to get what I wanted was to ship it in from another dealer in Quebec.I agreed to pay for the shipping. When the tractor arrived it was completely covered in road grime and salt. When my girlfriend looked at it she wouldn't believe it was a new machine. It was so dirty I could not see through the dash cover at all.Apparently it was shipped on an open flatbed truck over winter highways. When I told the dealer of my concerns about the salt exposure he blew it off as being nothing. He pretty much said it is normal procedure and a good power washing would take care of it.I went to look at the tractor today, after hours, and after they cleaned it.I can already see corrosion starting to form on many parts of the tractor.Right now it is only light but it will get worse over time.To my way of thinking this is not what a new machine should be.I also have concerns about future electrical problems from the salt exposure.I have told the dealer I am not happy and don't want the machine,I expect better when buying new. They already have a sizable down payment as I traded in my B2620 so I am tied to this dealer until something is worked out.He says he only brought the machine in because I asked him to and it is a difficult model to sell in this area. They never stock L45's,or M59's,and only bring them in when requested.Right now it is at a standstill.Am I making too much out of the salt exposure or is it a potentially serious problem?

This is tough, I feel for you. No one wants to start with these types of apprehensions when dropping that much money. The dealer is in a bit of a pinch as well. They probably didn't know what condition the tractor was in until they received it and by the sounds of it you guys had already done quite a bit towards finalizing the deal. I wouldn't take it unless my concerns could be alleviated, and it sounds like the dealer is willing to work with you. Hold their feet to the fire and make sure it feels right before you take it.

Would you accept it if your dealer cleaned and detailed it, and included a written 4 year rust/ corrosion warranty? Is this a dealer who has treated you right up to now?
