I used pipe as this is what I had on hand, I used a 33" blade I found for a reasonable price and made it on a hydraulic pivot . the drive runs through the pivot shaft so it does not affect belt tension 026.jpg024.jpg

Yes we have trees and lots of them, damage motor (5).jpgThis is the motor I will be using,it is a 18 hp briggs that I purchased on ebay. Special thanks to the UPS boys for smashing it all up .talked to the guy I bought it from he sent me another one which traveled by tracking it almost 3000 miles all over the US from redding ca to Kentucky and was lost completely by FedEx people. Filed a complaint with ebay and got my money back and got to keep the damaged first motor. straightened all the dents and rewired it and got it working ok.

You know, it wouldnt take but one decent shipping company to put UPS, FedX, and the USPS out of business. Everything I order now days gets lost, misdirected, returned without a delivery attempt, or just plain damaged beyond use before I ever get it. I orderd a few things from Harbor Freight a few weeks ago. I specified UPS for shipping. HF sent me a tracking number and it was shipped FedX, not UPS. FedX dropped it off at the local US post office for final delivery. Since the shipping address I provided was for home delivery, and I get all my US mail at a post office box, the USPS simply returned the shipment claiming address not found. DUH, I use a PO box because of the USPS was always putting my mail in somebody elses mail box. I got rid of the mail box because I got tired of getting everybodies elses mail. I have UPS and FedX shippments dilivered to my physical address. If UPS and FEDX want my business, I expect the mail to be shipped to my phiscal address. What with the dropping the shipments off for final delevery with the USPS

You are right for sure, I don't know how many people use global shipping on ebay but I will never use it again, the seller I bought this motor from got screwed big time, I waited almost three months and still ended up with a damaged motor but to be fair at no cost so I guess I can't complain to loud but trying to make it right with the shipping companies I could not get to first base with either one. had to work through ebay and the shippers got paid and somebody got the shaft and they were not accountable.

For my log feed I used a simple roller design, pipe inside of pipe with paddles welded on and chain driven. as this moves at a very slow speed and I put grease zerks on I think they will last a long time. I considered using pillow bearings but they were costly and a lot more work, maybe the wrong choice but time will tell.I am using a hydraulic orbit motor to drive this.easter with the boys 027.jpgeaster with the boys 028.jpgeaster with the boys 029.jpgeaster with the boys 030.jpg

I am using a direct drive reduced by pulleys for the saw blade, I have all kinds of pipe so I used it for most of the build , motor mounts, tanks etc, this was supposed to be a low cost machine however the dollars keep moving out at a high rate, wife is starting to give me the look.easter with the boys 024.jpgeaster with the boys 017 (2).jpgI have a helper with me he keeps me going, lots of good advice

...this was supposed to be a low cost machine however ...

 I just built one of those low cost machines too  Mine cost about 2.5X more than I thought it would! It's all worth it in the end. Looking forward to watching it take shape.

Got the motor mounted fine, Last week I picked up all the hydraulic components, pump, reservoir ,splitter ram and valves, that took care of a few dollars. I had a couple of cylinders laying around from leftover farm equipment. started to mount these . I purchased a triple valve body 25 gpm flow and a single valve with a kick off for the splitter. to put these together I had to purchase a power beyond valve for the triple something new to me .dave and charlie 024.jpgdave and charlie 025.jpgdave and charlie 026.jpg
