I have a Kubota L4400 with just 200 hours on it. When I engage the pto it turns until I try to use whatever is attached. Then it slips. Is there a PTO clutch on the L4400 and if so where is it located?

Just dropped tractor of at Twin Lakes Farm and Lawn. They are about a week or week and half behind. I will post after I hear from them. PS there is a separate clutch for the PTO according to the service manager.

Sorry, it was early when I posted.. Yes there is a separate PTO clutch. I saw the slip part and thought you meant a slip clutch, like on a bush hog..

Good luck!!

There is a hydraulic PTO clutch that gives a smooth engagement when you throw the PTO lever. It could have a broken spring, linkage, or something - the clutch is fairly rugged normally - I wouldn't expect it to wear out in 200, or even 2000 hours.

I picked up tractor today. They could not look at it for more than a week. I can use it until then for everything but PTO. I drained the hydraulic system and changed filter. The fluid looked a bit darker then new, smelled ok and had no particles in it. I filtered it two times to see what was suspended in it. No fibers or metal. I cut the filter into to see if it was clogged. Nothing, no metal or fibers. Refilled system with new filter. Did not make any difference. Does anyone have any suggestions of what to check? Any help would be greatly appreciated. J4200, where is the clutch you were talking about? Do I have to split tractor to get to it? Thanks John t

I believe the L4400 has a two stage clutch and live PTO on the manual transmission models. If so, then then you first push the clutch, the initial travel disengages the drive line and still allows the PTO to run. The rest of the travel disengages the PTO. On the HST model the main clutch itself disengages the PTO. If you have a Manual transmission model then the clutch it self needs some adjusting. Here are a couple of links to read.
