I built a splitter on wheels several years ago and I was going to use it on this machine but by the time I looked it over I realized that I almost had to completely destroy it so I decided to sell it and start with everything new.New I beam 8" and cyl 4"x24" . I will make the splitter slide back and forth so I can move the head out of the way. I wish to be able to cut without splitting smaller logs.

Got the motor mounted fine, Last week I picked up all the hydraulic components, pump, reservoir ,splitter ram and valves, that took care of a few dollars. I had a couple of cylinders laying around from leftover farm equipment. started to mount these . I purchased a triple valve body 25 gpm flow and a single valve with a kick off for the splitter. to put these together I had to purchase a power beyond valve for the triple something new to me .<img src="http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=422935"/><img src="http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=422936"/><img src="http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=422937"/>

I used the same tank on my processor. Its way to small, the hydraulics over heat very quickly. I'm using a 15 HP with 28/7 GPM pump.

I'm also concerned about how your powering your saw. If your going with a hydraulic motor, I don't think your engine is big enough and your tank is far too small. Regardless of tank size, you'll need a cooler. If its direct drive, I'm not sure how you're mounting it given the pics so far and I think you'll run into a power issue when the hydraulics are active.

It will be direct drive with a belt just building the clutch belt tightener for it today, You may be right about the reservoir time will tell I guess , it is 10 gallons. the reservoir I had on my splitter I could split for hours and the oil never overheated and it was a lot smaller but again we will see. Hooked up my hydraulics, disaster had the hyd rep from princess auto tell me how to plumb it , He miss informed me and I blew my hydraulic motor apart, I talked to a gentleman on the Hydraulic forum told me what was wrong and I went back to princess auto and told the guy, he said he made a mistake and replaced the motor free of charge. Got the hyd working okay now to get the blade moving

got the clutch tightener on, appears to be working, just have not figured out how to keep it on yet but I am working on it It is a simple belt tightener with a cable to a lever. would like to have something to hold it on but easy to release if I have to

No , I have been hauling liquid fertilizer for a company to supply farmers for seeding, temporary job just for spring seeding so the project is on hold for now

finally got back to working on this project, took the summer off and went on a trip of a lifetime to Alaska,Yukon, and Northwest Territories. Got back to two months of yard work to clean up on and got started on my processor, I got my grapple built for my tractor loader, works just fine so I managed to fall and limb about 15 cords of white poplar . I did not get my conveyor done yet but I wanted to try my machine out so we just moved it away by hand. I have uploaded two videos to youtube. listed under Little Woody wood processor. One video I just cut the wood and the other I am splitting and cutting it. I made the splitter to slide away so I can do this because we have a furnace which used large pieces of wood 8 to 10 inches in dia so we do not have to split a lot of wood for our use. We cut about 5 cords in one afternoon. No issues with the saw or hydraulics however as Kiotiken advised the motor handled up to 8 inch logs okay but after that I had to use 2 or 3 cuts to regain power to cut through the larger wood. So having said that I am looking a a kubota D622 to replace my 18 hp Briggs and I entertaining comments as to whether or not this is going to be enough power?

I mentioned this to another member looking for a engine and I will just go ahead and pass it along. Around here it seems that there are old ditchwitch's scraped out everywhere. Most of those small machines had 3 cyl dueltz engines. Around 35-45 hp.Some of the bigger machines have 4 and 6 cyl engines. And the engins are air cooled. The dueltz engines have a tag on the side of the block to tell you the hp so you dont have to guess. They run forever and sip fuel. Besides being real good engines, if you can find a complete scrap machine, the engines will have a bell housing for direct pump mount at the rear and a universal joint shaft and pedestal mount for a front pump. The front pump is usually a 2 section pump, not real big flows, but you can combine the flows to run a splitter cylinder or to run a hydraulic chainsaw. Control valves are usually Husco 5000series valves and have power beyond. Theres a lot of parts you can salvage off one of those old machines. Just an ideal and maybe give you something to be on the look out for.
