Effects of Trailer length

I agree with Chris. My last trailer was a 20' H&H tilt bed, Came with bias tires. It always pulled well. When I needed to replace the tires I went with new rims and radial tires with a higher rating. Best move ever. Once I mounted and balanced the tires and installed on the trailer it pulled much better.
Now I have a 22' 14K PJ tilt bed with radials. It tows great. Barely know its behind me. First thing I did when I got it home was pull the wheels off and put them on the spin balancer to check them because I didn't see any weights. Turns out they were all within 1/2 oz. of perfect.
I don't have experience with Kaufman but have heard from 2 guys that own them and they were not happy. Said the trailers bounced a lot, didn't pull straight, had hard times balancing a load. They never found out why and sold them and bought other brands.

The setup I posted earlier - the F150, 14k PJ, 8600lbs, radial tires, weight distributing hitch. I took that from Virginia to California. Never a hint of sway or bounce. At the speed limit pretty much all the way, including windy days in Texas and Oklahoma. As others have said, a lot depends on the entire setup and how it all works together.

Yes Kaufman trailers suck. Sure wish I would have reviewed them before I bought. They are a big local supply with great pricing. Once I bought my trailer I began calling them for help and they put me off on a local trailer repair shop. Unbelievable. I told them I would tell everyone I meet about my experience and will never buy another product from them. After this experience went online and was amazed at all the bad reviews and BBB rating. Some good reviews to of course but way to many bad ones. Total opposite with PJ and Hudson.

By the way had first tire blow out at about 1500 miles then another a few months later. Turns out the tires they used were very very cheap and had a third one with separated belts. So dumped another $700 for 5 new tires. Runs a little smoother now but still not right. All this with less than 4k miles on trailer.

Based on everyone's help here I'm going to a 22' PJ.

Thank you

Does it use a standard lug pattern setup on the wheels like 5 or 6 lug?

Or does it have the Dayton Style wheels? They are another thing I will not touch along with MH axles.

The trailer business is VERY competitive. If something is a lot cheaper than all the others they are cutting some corners somewhere.

Being in the trailer business for 25 years I see two issues more often than not with bad towing trailers.

First is Bias tires. I will not touch them.

Second is unbalanced wheel and tire assemblies. I demand all my stuff gets spun balanced.

Chris

Ditto on these suggestions. Even brand can make a difference as well as load rating.
