Went online and built out a Kubota and JD, both HST, with FEL, MMM, and BH.

Kubota 2320 $25,600 MSRP

JD 2025R $26,800 MSRP

Not sure those are the exact models that I want(or the Max24 for that matter but it was sitting right there and was an easy way to gauge the dealer) but I figure they are pretty much comparable tractors.

If that's the case, then $17500 is a ripoff. It's possible since they are a new dealership they don't see the need to make deals yet. But you could get a larger Kubota B with front loader for under $17500 (more like $14500-16500 depending on model), and you can certainly get a similar sized Deere 1-series in the $13000-14500 range with front loader.

It's been a few years, but when I shopped tractors in that size range, the prices for tractor and front loader were $14700 for a Kubota B2620, $14300 for a Deere 1026R, and way less -- like $12K or so, for the Mahindra (do not remember the model number at the time). A year later my neighbor bought his Max 28 for about $14K with front loader, bush hog, box blade, and a bunch of other goodies.

Anyhow, if someone told me $17500 for a Max 24 and front loader, I'da probably busted out laughing. Mahindras are supposed to be a *better* value, not worse!

I own a Mahindra 5035 with FEL and 6' ush hog for a little over $26k. Overall I think they are a good value especially when you consider the rebates and capabilities of the tractor. As for this size of tractor, I might go a little bigger if you can afford it and do not hesitate to call around to see what other dealers will do for you. I bought mine at the wrong dealership only to find out later.

yeah I don't remember what the deck would have added to my 28, but with tax tag insurance etc etc financed out the door I was $1500 less than that for a max28hst with a FEL and a hoe. The hoe, as I recall, was a spendy little option (but an amazing thing to have), I think just the tractor with a FEL was only like 15,500. I'll dig thro my email and find the quote.

$14,300 for my leftover but "new" (2.3 hrs) 2013 Max28 Shuttle w/ loader but I had to travel to pick it up. The Max 26 Sells $16,200 to $16,500 locally. The Max 24 should be just a little less.

Don't know about Deere --my experience is that they are less willing to haggle -- but figure 10-15% discount on Kubotas from most dealers.

I was at a Grasshopper dealer today. He had just taken in a 2013 Max 24 with MMM and snowblower on trade for a ZTR. The tractor had 116 hours on it. The guy traded it because it was too slow for mowing and it did a lot of bunching. He had tried the Grasshopper ZTR and figured he was going to be at about half the mowing time of the tractor. I know he to have taken a heck of a hit on that tractor to trade it in.

I was talking to the dealer and he said he used to sell 30-40 RFMs a year and now he sells maybe 5. He also said he would easily hit is annual goal of 50 Grasshoppers this year - he has already sold 36. For 4.5 acres a tractor would be handy but get a mower for mowing and a tractor for the other work.

Our mowing isn't the same out here as in Indiana. We have smaller lawns that need to be irrigated year round, the rest is weeds. A mower is going to beat the ever lovin $H&T out of you and not be much fun. Sure it would be faster, but you wouldn't be able to walk for a couple of days.

Sorry. I did not look where you were from. Get a bigger tractor and forget the MMM - they are too hard to get at the blades.

There lies the problem, not really enough work/room for a bigger tractor. Sometimes less is more and I think it applies here. So many options. Dunno, gonna keep researching and see. We close on the property June 26 and will figure out what I want to do after that.

that sounds about right, the difference between the shuttle and the hydro was $1000, and I think my dealer quoted me around 15,500 for the tractor and FEL. I only live about 7 miles from the dealer, so delivery was a non issue. It's funny on tractor pricing, dropping a couple more $K can get you a vastly bigger machine, gotta stop yourself from going hog wild lol.

As far as the MMM, I asked about it when I got mine (I already have a ztr, but hey, backup mowers are never a bad thing), I don't remember how many thousands it added to the price (I wanna say.. 2k? for the mid pto stuff and the deck, but I could just be talking out my rear-probably am. it was as much or more than I paid for my used ztr, I remember that), the dealer told me if I wanted to cut grass with the tractor, I'd be better off and money ahead buying a pto finish mower and using that.
