I don't like the manual choke. Is there a kit to make it automatic so I can remote-start it?

Also the noise. It's quiet I guess for 18 HP but loud enough that I want to remote it. Actually I don't want people driving by on the road (1/4 mile away) to hear it, would like to bury it.

Ill add my knowledge on them as my friend works at a service shop for generators,, the cheaper ones(banana wound) have the coil wrapped on one side of the housing vs basket wound, which wraps around the housing,, when the unit is generating, the armature is pulled to one side on the banana wound ones, that wears the bushing it rides in, out. so you need to have both outlets plugged in. or I'm guessing if you make a pigtail up with 2 male ends and one outlet, then both circuits will see the same load and not wear the bushing out prematurely..also, the better ones have AVR or auto voltage regulating and thus a better and cleaner power coming out

I don't get the fascination with a volt meter.
O.K. so you start the generator and the meter displays voltage; what do you do with that?

I would prefer dual AMP meters.
Meters that show load on both sides.
That would give you meaningful, useful information.

I finished wiring up the house today and gave it a trial run. I ran my entire house, big side by side fridge, TV, sat TV, sat inet ceiling fans, lights, deep well pump, and 50gal hot water heater., and washing machine. Went around and turned things on and off.

No freak out by the generator. No shaking to death as some posters that don't own one claim will happen.

Ran it on propane to finish off a bottle I had for about 30 minutes. It's as loud as a push mower with zero whine.

ready for hurricane season now.

Not to say anything can't fail. A customer has a hundred grand genset that has never once worked when needed!

But other people in the genset business will tell you, that if you buy a genset based on price, you could very likely be left in the dark when you need it the most. And most of this involves duration of running. I don't know if it's true, but my friend in this businees claimes they add a package of Tea Candles to every carton containing their cheapest offerings!

I just got my Northern Catalogue, and am appalled that among their extensive generator offerings, no mention is made anywhere of RPM, heat rise, distortion or duty cycle.

1) If any of these generators crap out -----> SODO <----- is not to blame. You guys are the ones who bought $1000 generators (= cheap generators) for $650. I had to pay $1000 for my XP10000E (=cheap generator). I also paid $900 for my Honda EU2000i you guys OWE me even if it craps out. :D

2) If these generators are used for welding, you fellas better post some projects. Rule: Can't use the words "Duty Cycle" without posting the project where said machine will "approach duty cycle" limitations and thus cause an udue amount of toe-tapping while it cools down.

Just sayin :D need a little more action on this forum.

Al right so the consensus is these units are OK, and you all got a heck of a good deal then? By the time I started to even read the thread, they had went back up.. I already have a 6500 surge, 5000 continuous generator, but I paid as much as you guys did for the 10K ones.

Somebody bought a bunch of Everlast 300 amp welders for next to nothing. too. but I didn't even have that much money to blow on a welder at the time. at the time.

You snooze, you lose...

Well I'm "stationing" my new generator with my son (wife, 2year old, 3 day old) in Northern Virginia so he has something if the power goes out. And I stationed my $271 welder in North Mississippi, so they probably won't be within extension cord distance for a few years. But I would be REAL interested in hearing if someone could run the combo together, even at reduced amps.
I think the welder and gen set are a bargain for < $1,000.

/edit
And if you missed this deal but NEED a generator now -
/www.powerlandonline.com has the powerland-10000-watt-portable-gas-generator-16-hp-with-electric-start on sale for $799. Which is also sold by homedepot.
