I only need to break off the top foot or so. But the jackhammer will probably split stuff off the sides, so when it gets small enough, I'll roll/push what's left in the hole. I figure I'll just leave the busted up pieces in the hole and refill. The stuff I took out is pretty good gravel and will hold up fine for driving on.

More pics coming later.

My plan was to dig down to one side, dig under it as much as possible and then somehow roll it over into a deeper hole.

I'm disappointed the 3016 won't lift it. It would be some much easier to complete the job. :)

But I found that under the rock is a conglomerate of slate/stones that is nearly undiggable.

After whacking on it with a sledge and breaking some off, it appears to have a 'grain' that runs from end to end, vertically. So tomorrow I rent a jack hammer.

Can you get a jackhammer for your backhoe?

Never thought of that. It might be a little too much for a CUT. I'd be afraid it would pound on the tractor to hard.

You can get them for SSQA, but that would be too hard on a tractor loader for sure...

This is a really big rock. The jack hammer is the way to go! Good luck Oldpilgrim :number1:

Wrap a chain around it and roll it out by pulling with your tractor then you may be able to push it around.

You're talking about the barn, right? ;)

Maybe you will luck out and it will fracture in big chunks that you can work with. I am not sure I would want to be on a jackhammer for long.
