Ram is going to cut powertrain warranties too

It was at 5 years or 100k miles. How many of you put over 60k miles on your trucks in 5 years? How many buy new trucks and keep them for more than 5 years?

It's even worse in Canada where the warranty is only 5Y/60 KM...

40,000 miles...

Well, let's see.....I bought a new Chevy K20HD in 1982 and I still have it... I bought a new Dodge W350 in 1992 and I still have it!

I bought new Chevy pu in 2012, we'll see how long I keep it...

When I bought my 2007 Silverado Z71 truck they of course wanted me to spring for an extended warranty. NO Way. I now have 48K miles on it and it has not been back to the dealer since new. Wife has a 2003 Olds Bravada AWD and other than a water pump the engine is still original everything with just a bit over 102K mileage.
I bought her a new 2013 Honda CRV as a retirement vehicle but other than a few trips to Houston it sets in the garage (4600 miles). She prefers to drive her almost 13 year old Olds.

A lot of people do. Go look at used trucks that are two/three years old. Most have 50-60k on them. You at least had the power train warranty remaining for another couple years and til 100k but not anymore. I hope this crushes the used car sales and people catch on to this mess. I know I won't be fooled. I'll expect the deal of a lifetime from now on since they no longer have confidence in their product to warranty it for a decent amount of time.

Warr have been going up and down since I was a kid, it's a sales gimmick...

I read that GM stated, the longer warr program didn't help their sales enough to keep it, so they are going to cut back on their warr again too... Some day down the road, they will increase them again, just like they have many times in the past...

Bingo!
No different than Walmart's price "rollback" gimmick. Up and down the prices go, like a rollercoaster. They point out how they are helping you as they "rollback" prices they jacked up months ago.

You can still purchase a lifetime warranty from ram on the gas engine trucks. I don't remember how much it is. I think in the $2,000 range and price can be negotiated. It was discussed a while back in the power wagon forum. The lifetime warranty they offer is really good too. Even covers ball joints. I have had really good service out of my rams so haven't bothered with it. Some of the guys in the power wagon forum have heavily modified trucks and ram still honors the warranty.

That was part of my point. Most who put a lot of miles on there trucks trade them in every few years anyway. There's always exceptions, but what percent of truck owners drive over 100k miles in 5 years and still have the same truck? I'd guess less than 1 or 2%, except for commercial use.
I do keep mine for 10+ years. I average less than 12k per year, so the warranty expires based on years for me anyway. I don't buy extended warranties, for anything. I save the money and consider myself self insured when it comes to that.
I'm not trying to defend Fiat or any of the brands. I think they all have used the warranties as a sales gimmick long enough that people weigh that too heavily when buying a vehicle. Go read the Ram forums and see how many guys thought they had a 100k mile warranty only to find most things that go wrong with their trucks are not covered under that warranty anyway. Gimmick.

We do. My 2013 Ford has 71,000 miles and my 2012 F150 has 60,000 miles. Neither has been in the shop period. No warrant work, recalls, ect. Both trouble free.
