Ram is going to cut powertrain warranties too

That was part of my point. Most who put a lot of miles on there trucks trade them in every few years anyway. There's always exceptions, but what percent of truck owners drive over 100k miles in 5 years and still have the same truck? I'd guess less than 1 or 2%, except for commercial use. I do keep mine for 10+ years. I average less than 12k per year, so the warranty expires based on years for me anyway. I don't buy extended warranties, for anything. I save the money and consider myself self insured when it comes to that. I'm not trying to defend Fiat or any of the brands. I think they all have used the warranties as a sales gimmick long enough that people weigh that too heavily when buying a vehicle. Go read the Ram forums and see how many guys thought they had a 100k mile warranty only to find most things that go wrong with their trucks are not covered under that warranty anyway. Gimmick.

A warranty is worth really nothing if the company doesn't stand behind it. My 05 Dmax had injector issues and they claimed it was not part of the powertrain but the emissions system. I won that argument but it was always a fight. If they just made it right the first time I would not be in the shop in the first place.

Well, let's see.....I bought a new Chevy K20HD in 1982 and I still have it... I bought a new Dodge W350 in 1992 and I still have it!

I bought new Chevy pu in 2012, we'll see how long I keep it...

I hear ya. My current 2000 Super Duty was purchased by me in 2009 with 100K miles on it because my previous PU burned. I put 1000 miles a month on it and figure it's good for another 4 years. By then it'll have 250K miles on it and I'll start getting a bit paranoid about that junk 7.3 Powerstroke..... :)

We do. My 2013 Ford has 71,000 miles and my 2012 F150 has 60,000 miles. Neither has been in the shop period. No warrant work, recalls, ect. Both trouble free.

Chris

Friend of mine has a 2003 Power Stroke (7.3) with 450K hiway miles on it. Replaced the Injectors and normal brake, ball joint, couple of U-Joint replacements.

Back in March 2015, GM (Chevy/GMC) announced a cut back from 5 year/100,000 to 5 year.60,000. I thought that was the first one to announce a cut.....Although, it is not a proud statement to make regarding your brand (read, my brand) choice.

I have a 2003 GMC Quadrasteer with about 125,000 miles and a 2004 GMC Sierra 2WD with almost 300,000. Always have run Mobil 1 and WIX filters and done my own routine maintenance. No major problems from the engines. The 2004 has had a power steering pump and power brake booster. No oil usage issues.

If what I have is paid for and not costing me in repairs, I am happy. I would rather keep the money and let it make money, rather than buying a new truck so often. I do not need a new truck every year to impress anyone. Those kinds of friends who like you for material possessions are the first to desert you at the sign of any trouble.

Sad to say that both of those trucks were special orders and manufactured in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada....which GM closed. The Canadians did an excellent job in paying attention to detail and getting both trucks made exactly as they were ordered. I wish it was still there and those Canadians still had their jobs. Thanks, Canada, for a job well done and appreciated! Boos and jeers :confused3: to GM for another bad decision.

I see this is another thread where people just want to demonize a company. I am not to happy about the reduction of mileage on the ram warranty either but it is not a big deal to me. I mentioned in a few post back you can still purchase a lifetime warranty for gas powered Rams. (And so far ignored) If you are worried about warranties and you are buying a 30k,40k,50k truck buy the $2,000 dollar lifetime warranty and you should be happy. You're paying for the factory warranty anyway with the purchase price. They could include the lifetime warranty and raise the price to cover it but then people would complain they didn't have a choice.
