Sometimes things don't go to exactly to plan and sometimes life is plain cruel, turning everything upside down. My wife was down to annual check-ups, so many now that each one had become almost a formality, except for that one in 2006. Cancer had returned and she was immediately taken in for surgery. There would be no thoughts of digging in the foreseeable future.

Ouch, that hurts. Been there done that.

How did she do?

Just flood it back and they will go to where they came from. If they were there to begin with before the pond drained they obviously had habitat somewhere to support them. once flooded they will go back there which is probably the existing pond edges.

Here is my Siphon Sock to remove rain water from the brush hog deck. I have used rags on things like this for many years.

i doo the same with my boats to get the last bit of water out of the bildge that wont flow out of the plug hole. I either use a piece of cloth or a paper towel. Will drain most of it in just a short time.

Surgery went as well as could be expected and after a week or so in hospital she was home again. Her mum came to stay and help look after her while I went to work. All she needed now was plenty of rest before the next stage of treatment.

After a while she smiled at me one day and said "Why don't you go and dig that pond", pointing out that we both had mobile phones to keep in touch and her mum was enjoying looking after her. I am sure a better man than me would have flatly refused and stayed with her. Instead I took it as a great sign that she really was going to get better.

A week later I was back in Shropshire. Mother and daughter would have 3 days of quality time together while I played in the mud.

The dig was back on.

She made it through and is still with me to this day.

I know that that sounds like the perfect solution but, NOPE. Once those buggers (Gov. environmentalists/Greenies, not the critters) get their hooks into you, you're screwed. Sort of a Catch-22 as Eric will be obligated to maintain the newly created environment that he caused by draining the pond. Big fine if he doesn't.
