Mahindra Resale Value

I am not sure where you are getting this info from but Mahindra has 3 or 4 new Mitsubishi's tractors comming out in the begining of the new year.

To reply to wallace, I heard about the Mitsubishi change from a Mahindra dealer so it is second-hand info. However, they seemed to be in the know. I'm not saying it will necessarily be a bad thing...just something new.

By the way, has anyone seen one of these Montana tractors? A local guy started selling them, but I can't find much info on them other than they're made in Korea and have a logo that looks like the green version of the Mahindra logo.

brady, I don't know about Montana tractors but google it gave me http://www.montanatractors.com/.

I own a Mahindra 2615. I have a JD 750 at work. The quality, fit, features, etc of the Mahindra are far better than the JD. Now at the time I bought my 2615 for just under $15k with MMM and FEL. For the same price I could have only got'n a JD 4010 of a Kubota 7510. If I would have ask the much smaller and lighter tractors to do the work I have done with my 2615, the others would have far more hours on them. Heck, there most of the trees my 2615 has pushed over would still be standing with the lighter tractor.

If you wish to own a Kubota, thats great, how it works for a long time for you. I have made a different chose, it is working for me.

The Montana CUTs are pretty much the same tractor as the Farmtrac CUTS. The 40 hp version is a lot smaller than my 4110, but they are priced about the same ($400 difference).

There is no question that the Kubota, John Deere and New Holland used machines that are two or three years old have a higher value than do the Mahindras. One obvious reason is that those two and three year old machines are priced higher than a new Mahindra of similar HP.

Well, here's my two cents. I recently had some work done around my home and one of the carpenters had worked at a local Kabota plant. He was looking at my tractor and without any conversation really toward tractors, remarked how heavy gauged the metal was. He was referring to the hand controls when he made the statement. Not meaning to ruffle any Kabota feathers here, just quoting the remarks. But anyway, while I'm ruffling feathers /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif, my New Holland/Mahindra dealer (which has been a New Holland/Ford dealer for as long as I can remember and I'm talking decades) tell me their having more problems with their New Hollands nowadays and having very little problems with their Mahindra line. To clarify that a bit further (and not appear so Mahindra biased), a tractor mechanic friend (predominantly New Holland) tells me the New Hollands aren't what they used to be. Danny

P.S. I am in the Mahindra forum so those other guys won't see this, right? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

This is a funny thread. I dont know alot about tractors but I do know about used vehicles and the used market doesnt always reflect the best product by a long shot.

Even in the car market, a used Geo Prism would get a lot less than the same year and mileage Corolla and they are the EXACT same vehicle.

I hope to find a deal that has a practically new tractor going for a little over 50% sticker. Please notify me next time you see this.

If I owned an equipment rental lot then maybe I would care about resale value. OTOH, I need to get a tractor to help me develop/manage 12 acres of raw ground that I just bought.

in my opinion the low resale is just because there aren't a lot of them on the used market, the company is just now starting to hit a big boom and become a lot popular. earlier this year our dealership was unable to get 2 diff. models for a little while because they couldn't build them fast enough to keep up with demands.

I have been offered only 13k by dealer for my 2013 5010 gear with ag tires only 200hrs, bought for 22k.

never sell to a dealer. He needs to make a markup profit too. Sell privately and you get the markup he would be getting.

So you are a salesperson. I would have kept that to myself. So I should listen to you because.......?????????????????

   / Mahindra Resale Value #31
If the name were other than "Mahindra", the resale would be better here in the states.

Call it a "Jones" and paint it white.

Unintentional Bias but the bias is there. there!

Did you have a legitimate question about basic economics?

<font color="blue"> Regardless of how you compare them, the new L30 series is going to outspec Deere and NH. Lift capacity, creature comforts, quality, and, in my opinion, appearance are all superior on the new Kubota. Coupled with the already superior feather step HST mechanism and the enhanced GST transmission (12 and 24 speed) and Kubota has really outdone themselves. To add icing to the cake, the price has remained almost the same. But maybe I'm a little partial since I worked for the company and now sell them for a living. </font>

Some but not all of the Kubota models are top notch.

I have looked at Mahindra tractors and over all they look like a good beefy machine. Some models look better than others depending on who made them. As for them being top seller in the world has been discussed on tractorbynet before. That number is really what ever you want to make of it.Everyone has a different idea on what makes a tractor. To Some a tractor is 400hp while others a tractor is 12hp. I think over all Mahindra, LS,and Kioti are the more popular of the non name brand tractor companies in the USA. There products will gain resale as they prove there products are reliable, have good support, and show they are not going to bail out on there customers. I see reports on TBN that Kioti is doing a good job and it is reflecting in there resale.

This thread was revived after 10 years! Must be a record.

Two reasons for low trade-in. One is the dealer is just trying to make a pretty high margin on the trade. The other is that many dealers are short of cash flow. When they sell you a new tractor, they use the proceeds to pay off their floor-plan. As soon as you take that new tractor, they must pay it off in full. If they give you $13k for a trade, they need to come up with $13k. No big deal on one unit, but if you have 15-25 trades you might have $250k tied up. Just a little insight from a dealer's perspective. Having said that, I'd surely give you more than $13k for a 200 hour 5010g with loader, unless you beat it up.

it is relative to what you get, in the small tractor sector (unsure of the larger stuff, I try to not look at toys I can't afford) it would appear that for the most part, if you're under hours there is minimal depreciation vs the new cost (sunken costs like financing and insurance not withstanding), but then there also aren't very many floating around-at least in the southeast.

I don't know on trade values, but based on what I've seen sell private party, somewhere around 10-13% after a couple of years appears to be the norm on reasonably low hour units (so, only ~ 3k vs a new unit). That's for max 28TLB's. That's also in line with insurance valuation on the same unit as well.

Trading anything in is almost always going to cost the end-user, car dealers either mess with the new car loan or undervalue your trade- for max profit/least impact one ought to strive to sell private party.

You have it pretty well described- I bought the 5500 as a trade in for new mpower 85. Dealer had been looking for a 50+ HP for me and when the deal started, he let me in. I bought it before the new unit left the lot and got it for 75% of what the same tractor was on the sale websites.
I will probably trade up in a few years for bigger cabbed unit and will have my monies ready when a tractor is available to get best deal. If Dealer had to put the 5500 on lot and re-sell, he would have asked a lot more and probably got it.

I been looking at used tractors as well and have noticed that JD and Kubota seem to hold their value. I been looking at JD 4100's online and they are only a few grand lower than a used JD 2320 that is over 10 years newer. If I look at a same year/hp mahindra or TYM price is usually 2500 less and some even have more options.

I figured I would try and stick with JD because of the pin attach for the loader stuff would be interchangeable but with these price differences I could easily just go and buy another set of pallet forks.

We have a very good local dealer here that sells and services Mahindra, Hew Holland, and Kubota. Last month they had a really nice Massey 253 with FEL, rear remotes, hydraulic top and tilt, foam filled fronts, one owner unit with 1100 hours. Did not stay on the lot a week. The dealer sold the owner a new Mahindra and took the Massey in on consignment. The dealer made a nice profit on the used unit without tying up his money in inventory and the buyer bought a new tractor. With that said they are selling a good number of Mahindra's. I would think that the market value will continue to improve on Mahindra's as long as our local dealer continues to give good service and support.

I didn't buy mine to resell. Fact is you're going to lose money with that sort of plan, no matter what you buy... Best you can hope for is to get enough use out of it to offset/justify the loss.
