Lawn tractor replacement engine

I have an old Craftsmen lawn tractor. I need to find a reference chart for replacing the engine. Has anyone find one?

The lawn tractor is a Craftsmen 10 HP vertical shaft mower..1" shaft, 3 5/32 long inside thread 7/16 20 ... Model 143.991002
Tractor model # 536.270111. Sears referred me to a Tecumseh engine. but they went out of business. Trying to find a Briggs and Stratton. Is there a crossover chart? Please help :confused2:

Unless you can find a used or take-off engine that's complete, a new Briggs engine in that HP range (10.5hp) will be in the $700+ retail range. For that kind of money, I'd be shopping for a whole new or used lawn tractor.

Here's a 10.5 hp, built by Briggs, with a 1" shaft, and correct shaft length. Doesn't say anything about internal shaft thread size, but I'm sure a phone call could find the answer. Don't know if the bolt pattern would match, but the price isn't bad.

Same engine is $295.00 at the Engine Warehouse. New take off's from riding mowers, so they are selling them as scratch & dent specials. Still has 2 year Mfg. warranty.
