Like any store, TSC has specials which can be pretty competitive. They have pretty good close out prices on after the season goods too. I have two stores to choose from within 25 minutes of where I live and both have good help. When I get a whole pallet load of something, they don't fuss over a pallet charge either. I did have to learn to ignore the goodies by the check out lane though, lol!

In the last 20 years, the TSCs around here have made a big transition from real farm stuff to stuff for wanna-be hobby farmers and yuppies who want to keep goats. They're a LOT less useful than they used to be, but still better than anything else around here.

Living between 3 TSC stores, my impression is that they tailor their store inventory to the demographic of the area. The inventory in one store, located closer to San Antonio, and kind of an up and coming bedroom community for S.A. carries more clothes, and general hardware type stuff. The stores further out in the country carry much more in the way of farm supplies. I have seen this in other TSC stores as well. The inventory in the TSC in Giddings, for example, is far different than the inventory in the TSC in Waco.

This is a common practice of almost all chain retailers...Home Depot has been doing it for decades...

Well, the wife and i finally made it into the store. Like people have said... A large hardware store. Prices soso.

About 1 block away is a farm store called north 40 (formerly Big R Supply). They just added a 50,000 square foot addition to an existing 59,000 sf store, plus a large outdoor fenced farm equip section. There about 10 times the size of tractor supply store and about the same prices. Not sure how 2 such stores can survive in our small economy here in north idaho.

They opened a TSC a little south of me about 6 months ago. It's good for me because the next closest store that carries any kind of "farm" goods is about 50 miles away.

I do have to laugh, because when they opened, they carried small boats, bush hogs and snow blowers. Come on, this the Mojave and there isn't a lake or mowable brush within 50 miles and the most snow we have in a winter is an inch or 2. :laughing: :laughing:

Unfortunately it's the other way around. One hundred years ago they used to run cattle around here because the grass was 3 feet tall. Global warming or climate change as it is appropriately called has changed all that and it is not likely to get any better.
