Never see them anymore when at one time they were in almost every pickup window, man everything I grew up with is slowly going away

Anyone see the old standard gun racks with a shotgun or rifle in the truck window anymore?

Seldom, but that doesn't mean that the pickup (driver) is not armed.

I still see the racks, but usually empty or holding fishing rods.

The other change is the gun racks were typically in older style "regular" cabs. With the cab and a half and double cabs the rifle is not "right there" when you need it. It would be in the back seat with the kids with many "pickup drivers" these days. So it is a no go.

Not knowing a particular US State's law(s) for transporting a firearm... but I would hazard a guess that modern safety regulations would make it too much of a hassle to openly 'display' a firearm.

Stuff like: Is there a trigger lock on it; is the bolt removed and stored separately; is the ammunition stored separately?

These days you'd darn near need to install a gun safe to transport a .177 pellet rifle.

I got a gun rack in my truck. Sort of. Kind of the modern CCW version.

If you buy it, tell Jason Wilson that Eric sent you.

I had one in my truck back in the 80's. But as someone pointed out, it was a standard cab truck so the gun was right there. Mine got used for its intended purpose when we went hunting, but it often served as my hat rack. When I was in high school, just about all of the pick-ups in the school parking lot had them. But, back then, guys would leave their hunting licenses pinned to the backs of their coats when they came to school. I don't think you see that any more.

I also remember that my sixth-grade teacher was a muzzle loading enthusiast and would often talk about his shooting get togethers in class. Another teacher would often talk about trapping with a kid in class that trapped. Something tells me that you don't see that any more.

And, it's not like I went to some backwoods, rural high school. We had a lot of farms around our area, but we were also located in pretty close proximity to a large military base and a medium sized city. My graduating class had almost 700 kids in it - the high school (grades 10-12) had about 2100 kids. Pretty good sized.

We don't have those law problems here, but still, I would not carry a visible gun in a vehicle nowadays. In the old days we all did it because the likelihood of theft was much less. I guess we just didn't have as many crackheads in the community when I was a boy. We keep our guns under our clothing now.
