Gun racks in the back window of the pickup

I was thinking the same about gunracks the other day and how things have changed. Graduated HS back in 79 and lived in a rural community. Back then at HS they had an area for the kids to smoke, skoal cans in back pockets were common, almost every male had a pocketknife in his pocket, gunracks with a long gun were common in the school parking lot.

Now everyone of those things would get you expelled. Times have changed. Schoolboard even passed a rule forbidding the use of tobacco on school property by anyone. That means as an adult if I have a dip in and drive up to the school to pick-up my child who is waiting I have violated the rules. Kicker is this, at one time, was one of the largest burley tobacco producing counties in the state.

In the early '70s, I put one of those gun racks in my standard cab 1969 Chevy. Never put a gun in it, but it made a nice hat rack and place to put an umbrella.

Still very common to see ranchers and farmers with guns in the back window and on their hip up in this area. .

Times have changed!

I took my .410 to school when I was in ninth or tenth grade. I sanded and refinished the wood stalk in my woodworking class and re-blued all the metal parts in my metal working class.
