We had our IROC Camaro stolen 16 or 17 years ago. LEO caught the guy with the car; he was just released on parole.
Car looked ok from 20'. There were a couple noticable dings. Upon closer inspection, there rear tires(near new Michelin XGTV sticky radial) were pretty worn. Stereo and amp gone. Heater hose broke, and bypassed. When car went in to shop, they found the motor mounts and transmission mounts broke(probably from dropping the clutch/hot rodding). Car was full of stuff like two people were living in it.
Worst part, as non-smokers; it smelt like an ash tray inside...
Insurance took care of it it all. It still ran great. But it was not the same...
It was stolen out of Intel parking lot in Folsom, mid day. Wife and I worked there. I had drove my truck cause I had a class after work. at 8am, I parked a few cars from it. Had a lunch errand, and when I returned at 1pm parked near it again. Someone got it between 1-5pm. LEO said they like 9-11am, and 2-4pm, because at big companies, most people are in by 9, some start leaving for lunch around 11. Same in afternoon; folks are usually there by 2pm, and some start leaving by 4pm.
Funny thing is, the LEO saw the car because the tags were past due. Otherwise they would not have known... We had some misplaced mail after a move, and had missed the due date for registration... When LEO saw that, they got closer to the car and the guy started being evasive. Call to dispatch showed car stolen, so they waited for multiple units to pull him over.
