Part of me just says to move on... the other part says I should at least show up
at the auction...

I hope you do go and bid, too.

In CA, it is very hard to get access to these auctions without a dealer license. I was able to buy numerous cars
at the State Farm Ins auctions in Phoenix when I lived there many years ago. There, you did not have
to be a dealer, and all bids were sealed. Got some great deals on M/Cs and cars.

Since it's an older model, hopefully the scrappers and the fix-n-flippers won't be too interested, once they see there is someone interested in it in particular. They'll probably move on to easier pickin's. Would be great if you could get it for around half the storage fees.

Not sure of the type of auction it will be at, but I knew a guy here in Texas that had a used car lot and he went to the car auction every month. He usually paid around $50 for each car he bought. He would list them on his lot for $3,000 to $5,000 and do all the financing himself with $250 down. He said most people would pay for at least a year, which is what he was figuring to make in profit off of each car. Some pay longer and a few people even pay off the entire note. He said that once they gave him the deposit, he was already ahead a few bucks and the rest was just easy money.

Have not been able to reach Copart... the auction people... Thursday, the line was always busy and Friday I'm guessing it was closed.

The car is still in the two yard 2 miles from Mom's home... so it has not yet been move.

Thinking this could be a drawn out process...

Went to Copart today... car is in system and not processed.

Here is the bad part... unless I am a licensed member Dealer, Dismantler, Body Shop, Tow Company... I can't bid... and even if I was... it costs $600 to be a member.

Best that was offered was to contact one of their members to see if they will Broker the car for a fee...

Had our CSAA branch manager call salvage department on my behalf... was told no exceptions can be made.

Kind of ******...

Bummer... Don't have a friend that's a used car dealer that can bid on it for you?

I do... they never buy at auction and it looks like they would have to pay a $600 membership first.

This is why I went to the CSAA office... because the e-mail from the adjuster said... he made arrangements for me to bid and he hoping I get it...

Never did say I need to be a dealer and member...

Copart did say I could use one of their brokers... there are a couple listed in California... none nearby.

Will need to delve into it more.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, you seem to be handling things well. Try and get the car at the auction, I'm would think that one of the brokers would help you out once they hear the story. Maybe even pass the word and get it for minimum bid just to help you out..

We were recently looking at an used Tahoe for my daughter and it looked pretty good, seller had a good story about it, ran a carfax and found it had 5 owners and was stolen and recovered at one point... we passed on it, price was too high anyway.

Best wishes, hope your Mom is doing well and enjoying things.
