ford 1900 speed shifter stuck in 4th
I have a Ford 1900.I put it in high gear (4th) and it will not come out. I stopped the tractor at idle, shut it off , put it in gear, rolled it a little back and forth, applied force ( not too much) pulled the shifter up and tried, pushed the shifter down, will not come out. It will go in 1,2,3,R, but in high gear.
Any help or sugestions before I pull the top plate off?
Thank you

I think you have a detent ball that is stuck. The balls get worn and some times get wedged. You will find the detent balls and springs under the bolts near the shifter. These are not the bolts that hold the cover on. If you search posts by JC in the newholand forum he has some detailed pics.

these are the post I have seen, but the pictures did not appear.
Well that was an easy fix. Thank you very much. Just went outside and removed the 2 bolts that hold the spring down and it released the shifter. Now its back to work. Thanks again!

Do I just loosen the two bolts behind the range shifter, try to move the lever and without removing the bolts??
If the lever moves re tighten the bolts and it should be fixed??
