Controls are smooth but definitely I would call them responsive. I don't have experience on bigger Z turns only garden tractors and the control and agility is night and day. I went with the 42in cut because I only have an acre to deal with and many tight spaces. Also the ground is uneven in places so I figured I would get less scalping. It is a bit of a bumpy ride in those spots if I go too fast. I am impressed so far. I have some fairly steep hills to deal with and can't mow all of it but I knew that going in. Those areas have to be hand mowed or weedwacked. I can't imagine any machine dealing with these areas anyways.
My Kubota F3080 4wd has never failed to go any where I've took it and I've mowed some really steep places. BX plus Z and next comes the F.:D

I to want to know about this seat and if Kubota has one for their other Zs maybe theirs will fit ours.

My seat came from my dealer-branded Toro but has a Michigan nameplate on it-looks identical to the one from Northern Tool.

I took delivery today of a Z121S (48 in. suspension seat, LED lights, Kohler 21 hp engine) and traded in a 50in. Cub Cadet RZT with a 22hp Kawasaki engine that I had for about 10 years.

The difference between the Kubota and Cub Cadet is like night and day. You feel the quality of the Kubota as soon as you sit in it. The deck height adjustment and foot pedal for raising/lowering the deck works great. The seat is super comfortable and can be easily adjusted to suit your preference. Power transfer to the blades and drive wheels is amazingly efficient. Although this engine is about the same size as the Cubs, the mower feels like it has twice the power! The control handles have dampers, and require very little movement forward/backward compared to the Cub.

I couldn't wait to try it, and even though the grass was damp and about 7 in. long (I cut it to 3 in.) this thing just powered through it without any sign of change in engine noise ..it was like the grass wasn't even there. what normally took me 1 1/2 hour with the Cub, this thing did in a little over an hour. It wants to go faster, I think its designed to go fast. and the fact that its 2 in. smaller than the cub, is an advantage because I have a couple of tight spots that I can barely get the Cub through.

Now the Cub has grease fittings, and the Kubota does not. I thought this was a good feature on the Cub until the time the zerk popped out of the mower spindle (they are pressed, not screwed on). So the Kubota bearings are sealed, and no maintenance is needed. Here I'm counting/hoping on Kubota quality.

This machine is clearly in a different class than the zero turn mowers you buy in the big box stores. And if you can swing it (and 48mo 0% financing makes it easier), I'd highly recommend it. I could easily see this thing lasting 15-20 years with recommended maintenance.

Maybe the only thing I regret is the suspension seat. Might have to look at that upgrade... do you know the cost?

dragoneggs, I'd call the dealer and see if its available as a replacement part. The Z121S designation is like a package of features (seat and lights) so I bet that the seat would fit your mower.

yeah will do. The lights I passed on. Don't have much reason other than the 'cool' factor for those. That said... I did add LEDs on my BX facing both front and rear and loving those. I guess I'm more of a tractor at night guy vs. mowing in the dark guy.

I'm looking at some spring assists for tractor seats on Amazon or have the search saved for when I get time to see the seat and how it's attached to the mower on my Z122. Amazon has some for around $200. You get one first and let me know or I'll do the same.

dragoneggs - - the S model comes with the Kohler engine, upgraded seat, & LED lights. The E model, with the Briggs & Stratton, plain old seat, & no lights. I got the S model for the seat & engine - - but could care less about the lights. I thought about getting the cheaper E model & just adding the upgraded seat. I was told that would be $300. That sealed the deal - - I bought the S model. And i'm pretty happy with it!

Hey Tdog, I got the R model because I wanted the 42in cut. I have some narrow tight quarters to mow. It comes with a Kawasaki engine and I am a big fan, having one 25+ years and with zero issues in my JD rider. Yeah I don't want the lights but more cushion in the ride would be a nice luxury. My lower back is tender and I never know when that is going to 'go' on me. Happens when I least expect it. A softer ride can't hurt!
