Fireworks?

I should have known that you could come up with that. Would you care to comment on the assessment of Mr Huxen's death?

THE PROBLEM: Actor was allowed to keep unsupervised control of a firearm when not filming. Firearm was loaded. Prop department/armorer did not follow safety guidelines and did not exercise weapons control..

THE RESULT: Preventable death. (My thought is that if he was going to handle a firearm, he should have been proficient enough to not need supervision when not filming.

I think if properly dehydrated, you could fit millions of gallons in a flat rate box:D
That was kind of m point. :D

Well, it will be of little use for me to comment, but since you asked:

In my opinion, the actor was to stupid to live. That was the main cause of death. Should the armorer have kept control of the firearm? Yes, he failed to do so, But what did the actor expect to happen? Even if the actor did not have the sense to know his action would result in serious injury or death, why would anyone discharge a blank near his ears? But we have seen and heard of people doing stupid things to "show off" for others in the past. Some peoples sense of self preservation is very low I guess.

How many average folks actually know that movie blanks can kill you? Not a large percentage of the population, I'd guess. Its not that the actor was stupid. He was unaware. There's a big difference.

I could counter that with the fact he had fired many blanks in his career, and the average person has not. He should have known. But we are splitting hairs here, on whether you want to call it ignorance or stupidity. He still should have know because he was familiar with the noise/blast and the effects. Does the armorer bear some responsibility? Yes some. But I put the majority of the responsibility on the adult actor. He was not a child. i always ask the same question, what was the expected result? and why would you do that?

His expected result was that nothing would happen to him or anybody else because nothing ever happened to him or anybody else before.

I heard on the radio yesterday that alcohol was involved.

Young and alcohol never go well together. Never.

Article I read said his friends tried to discourage him. The article also said the man's mother wants fireworks banned. While I feel sorry for her, it's just one more reason everything comes with more warnings than how to info.

Around my area, the tents started popping up about a week or so before the holiday. Being a poor area, I don't know where the money comes from to buy fireworks when many cannot afford food?

I won't go out of my way to see a show. I did not have to go to Vietnam but I ended up in Germany where I was the "lanyard puller" on an 8 inch gun. We did manuevers with two other battalions one night. Thirty six eight inchers firing for effect with VT fuses is hard to beat for a noise and light show.

Fireworks were re-legalized in Maine in 2011 after being banned for 63 years. The rationale was it would increase business. It has increased the medical, fire department and law enforcement business plus a lot of noise pollution complaints in towns. It's easy to cite fireworks sales, not so easy to add up the negative costs.

As you say, where does the money go and come from? If being spent on fireworks it is not being spent somewhere else. For US out-of-state tourists travelling by auto, they can't get to Maine without passing through New Hampshire where there is no sales tax on fireworks.

Agreed. Putting a gun to one's head is a sign of mental illness or stupidity. I knew one should to put a gun to one's head when I was four or five.

Yep --- no one would want a rock thrown at their head. Who would not know/expect that a hard object being shot out a gun directly to your head would not be dangerous? Its really hard to believe any adult in the world wouldn't know NOT to do such a thing.

I was taught to treat every gun like it was loaded.
Also not to point it at anything which I didn't want to shoot.

The same link posted also told of when Brandon Lee was killed with a prop gun while shooting a movie scene...

I have a very cynical viewpoint of how the movie industry uses firearms and portrays their use.
