Ballast box

I am also looking for a good ballast solution. We have a Kubota L3800. I just ordered a set of pallet forks, 340 lbs. I have a 4N1 bucket and a grapple both of which weigh at least 400 lbs. I looked a bit on the TBN site and came across this thread. I was thinking about the possibility of buying a 3PH carry-all for general use and rigging some weights I could put in the carry-all for ballast when needed. I see that Titan has a carry-all like I was thinking of. Its dimensions are about 5' wide and 3' deep (i.e., it would extend 3' back of the 3PH). Titan says it has a 4,000 lb capacity. All I would need for ballast might be in the range of 1,000 lbs. I could put fill some cement blocks I already have with cement, affix them securely on a pallet that I would make sure would fit on the 5' X 3' carry-all, and just put the pallet on the carry-all and the carry-all on the tractor when I needed the ballast. Any thoughts about that?

One more thing: Thanks to the idea I got from TBN, I put my all of my frequently used attachments on dollies. I have enough concrete floor space so that I could put the carry-all on a dolly with a wood frame on probably about 8" casters or tires, so that I could pretty easily move the fully weighted carry-all around to make hooking the carry-all up to the 3PH pretty easy (I have Pat's QH system also).

I need ballast and like this idea in general. However, the 5' width would not work for me at all and I would not want it extending that far out the back of the tractor that would limit maneuverability. Plus you can get too much weight extended out the rear of the tractor- leverage. But in the end, a lot of folks convert something like a 55 gallon drum and it is compact and heavy. In the end, this will probably be the way I go. Simple, compact and effective.

This is mine:

Neat rig. Serves more than one purpose. I see your rig for the top link. How did you rig the connection pins for the lift arms? Is that concrete in the barrel?

The pins are a Tractor supply CAT 1 "drawbar" . And yes, Concrete in the barrel. The uprights are just chunks of 4 inch angle iron I had in the scrap pile. The 2 inch receiver is also welded and attached to the drawbar with a 5/8 piece of all thread, and some 5/8 rebar also welded on an angle for stability.

I'm going (need time!) to be building a 55-gal drum weight. For maneuvering in the woods, something compact is needed. A blade/box blade/carry all/brush hog is all way way too big. If you're on farmland, well, maybe a different story.

That was my exact thoughts.. I have a lot of woods, and not much open land. You need something tucked in fairly close, but you still need some weight.
