Silverado gets new facelift for 2016

I wish Toyota would update the Tundra to improve the gas mileage and get rid of all the bulbous tail lights and headlights. I've driven a 4Runner since 2003 and my wife has a Rav4 and both have served us well. I'd love to buy another Toyota, but the Tundra just doesn't make my putter flutter as it stands right now.

Agree about the gas mileage -- that is the main thing that knocked them off my shopping list. They are 5-7mpg worse than the class leaders. Otherwise it's a great truck.

A good friend just bought a Tundra, gets about 8 mpg, omg, 5/7, it's more like 9/12. My 5.3 suburban get 17 in mixed and is close to 22 on highway. That puts Toyota in "wouldn't even consider" category. HS

For what it's worth, I just hauled my 28' travel trailer from central Florida to Montana and am averaging 9.8 mpg. My Tundra is a2015 crewmax

If it's a Triton v8 you will only want to run it to 250,000miles. After that they go a little further but then you will put a good chunk of money into plugs coil wires. Good luck even finding a mechanic to work on it

My buddies ate a timing chain or cam phasers and according to him and his mechanic barely ran and had metal all in it and the guy refused to work on it. it was an 06 and had 150,000 in it. But to the defense of the motor it was run "low" on oil. He said that it was ticking and he took it in and the mechanic and that guy said the oil was not even on the stick. I asked did he check his oil and he said no...but he said its never used oil and he thinks they didnt put the right amout of oil back in. I said that and you probably did use a quart over the time between it started making the noise and on turns or something got starved for oil. Well they refilled it and it lasted 3-6 months more and got real bad and he took it in and the guy said it was full of metal and would not want to fix it.

About 3 weeks ago I bought a 2015 F350 4x4 gas crew cab. All around driving it's getting 13.8. Not great but not horrible. I wouldn't even consider a GM. Way to cobbled together.

Toyota has always had terrible gas mileage , at least since the 90s and then it was bad for what it was!! There good trucks though.

We just bought an 04 Sequoia. It has the first Gen 4.7L V8 before they got Variable valve timing. Its no race winner but has decent power. It will get 17-18 at best on a two lane highway on a trip and will return about 15mpg in the winter and when the AC is cut on and you idle more to have the AC running its more like 13-14 in mixed town and highway trips as we drive it. Hoped it would be better but i like the truck. The Toys look way better than thier vintage counter parts in ford and chevy on the interior. The fords leather seats all look terrible of this age and the Chevies are not much better.

I just pulled my 16 foot car hauler trailer with my tracor. I bet the total weight was about 4000#. You could feel it was back there but not terrible taxing on the brakes. It was slower to accelerate but there was a trailer!!! But the max tow weight is like 8000#!!!!! i bet its gutless at that weight esp if its a camper thats like a sail!

My trip the 130 miles i put on the tank up there and a few empty trips around to town and stuff put another 40 miles on it maybe? and then another 40 miles or so to the station with just the trailer and mower on the way back. I averaged 9.9mpg!!!!! thats better though than my next tow vehicle...my 1980 K10 which cant handle the load as well, my wife and one year old son cant ride in it, does not have AC either, and in the sequoia he is in the back watching his DVD player :) and all our stuff is stored inside and dont have to worry about rain.

I just made a trip from Waco area to Mississippi and back in a dodge 3500 with 6.7 cummins. We we were towing a car trailer. I was able to nurse it to 18.4mpg on that trip. Toyota has a long way to go to get into the game. HS

All this talk about MPG is meaningless for me to a point. Yes, I like good MPG like everyone else but reliability and comfort are the main things I shop for. It does me no good at all if it gets excellent MPG if it's broken down. Between our three vehicles we dove 82,000 miles last year. All three are Fords and other than 5,000 mile oil changes, tire rotations, two sets of tires, and a few air filters there were no other expenses. That's the reason I stick with them.

Yes there are other vehicles in the segments we buy in that get slightly better MPG but I have not seen the reliability or comfort.
