I just sold my tractor on CL. The buyer and I went back and forth fir about two weeks. He gave me a sob story also...... telling me his wife says to buy new because of 0% financing and on and on. He finally gave me what my bottom dollar was. He had is phone number in his email so I search his name and number and found out he owns a used tractor business in Quackertown, PA. I knew he was buying it to resell it and he is a scumbag for lying to me but that's ok..... he gave me my bottom dollar. Check out ebay...... he has the tractor he purchased from me up for sale right now for $6,000 more than what he paid me. Search L3540 on ebay and you'll see it.

I'm glad I read your post...I have seen his ads on CL and seems like he has a nice inventory of Tractors.I'm only about 1 1/2 from him. But knowing his mark up now I doubt I will go check him out unless I go with the intention of chiseling him down thousands of dollars.

This all all somewhat foolish. We all make a living, some choose a different path, not always on the up and up. It's buyer beware. it's time to grow up. Besides, do you really believe that the new Dodge trucks get 29 miles to the gallon??? Come on...

Mine gets 40 LOL oh wait I don't own a Dodge. The way I look at it if you list on Craigslist for X amount and you get it fine It is no longer yours so why should you care if the buyer resells it for more money its his. If you think he is the only one telling a story about his ownership of the item you must live in a small world and have newer dealt with a car dealer or tractor dealer:laughing:

Yes, but when you buy something from someone on Craigslist, how would you feel if they lied to you about the item you were buying?

Depends on what they lied about. How much money the seller has in any item makes no difference to me..Its what I have to pay, I agree saying you owned something for a while and that not being true isn't the best policy.

My son makes a bunch of money buying items at flea markets and thrift shops and flipping them. Mostly games, toys etc. He takes pictures and posts them for sale while he is still in the store shopping. Very often the item will sell for 3 or 4 times what he paid for it before he leaves the store. So flipping tractors is really no big deal. If you buy into the sob story and sell it cheap then too bad for you. If the guy wants to tell you he has owned it for 27 years when he just bought it yesterday, no crime against that. I see liars everyday and Craigslist is a Haven for low life scum. There are no real rules on Craigslist, it's buyer beware. And be very careful about posting negative comments about the guy. That may open yourself up to legal action.

Not sure why you need to lie weather your the buyer or seller. Is it really worth a couple bucks to lie about something? If it is Id say you got some serious issues.

To be fair, that's how most used tractor dealers operate. Maybe all of them.

That's apparently the game for many, but a POTENTIAL $6K profit on a $27K purchase really isn't that bad.
Hdoilcan had 2 weeks to turn the guy down and had the option of telling the liar where to stick his money.
