After a meeting of the "cooperative" yesterday, we decided against the hydraulic PHD, primarily because one of three of us did not have a third function remote installed, and we didn't want to add another expense. None of the three of us plan to use the PHD more than sporadically, so now it's back to considering the best choice of a PTO driven unit.

jedjoe one thing my tractor dealer told me when I bought a 3pt PHD was that my tractor could only use a short auger effectively. I have a 9" Shaver with a short auger and it always seemed to have a lot of ground clearance and when I started my current fencing project I really wished it had a longer bit. I bought a 6" TSC bit that was longer and after discovering I had the adapter to attach it I tried using it. I was able to drive around with it clearing the ground, only occaisionaly dragging but I discovered I could only use it if the hole and tractor were on level ground, or the tractor was higher than the hole to begin with. In your case with multiple users depending on how level your general area is you may want to consider that ground clearance issue when considerig the length of the auger bit.

That is a great auger stand that MtnViewRanch and Chilly87 have, I think one is in the future for me as well. I like the wheeled dolly but you really need a lot of barn space to use that method.

b2910: thanks for the reply and suggestions. My tractor is the "tallest" of the three members, and I've used standard PTO augers and bits with no problem with clearance. The TC30 is the shortest, and we may use that tractor as the "standard". I agree that the auger stands on those two posts are outstanding. Thanks!

Ah, after examining the photos again, I can see that top piece is removable. Thanks!

One of our partners has found a slightly used Danuser 8300, a hydraulic PHD that mounts to the tractor bucket. Any of you guys have an opinion? Ever used one of these 8300's?
Look at the one i build in the "build it myself section" first page

Heres two I own.Red one is a International(World Ag Corp) 12" auger.
Yellow one is a Speeco(6" auger).
Have to agree Leinbachs are good especially 8000/9000 mdls(thats where they start getting pricey)IMHO.Of course Bushhog,Woods make good stuff but seems to me lots of PHD's use Comer gear boxes. Not that there bad.Which I could be wrong but might be made in China. Also its no secret Danuser considered one of the best.I believe all Danuser components made in good old USA or at least they use to be.

Thanks a bunch for posting the photos for the International (ITG). I had search the web for days until I found yours here. Mine is so used, that I wasn't sure what it would look like in better condition. Aside of that, it looks like ITG is now gone after 2008. However, oddly enough a company called AutoTechGear showed up about the time ITG left. Plus it has all the stuff ITG use to carry. Even some of the same sales and engineering people work there.

Our augers were also rebranded as LandPride, Gearmore and Lowery Manufacturing Ag Post hole diggers.

What I need on mine badly is the auger replacement point tip bit. TSC wants a $$$ for it and it's so-so durable. ACS is reasonable, but the shipping cost stinks. Got any advice?

Yes I agree that shipping cost are pricey but just a thought.
This outfit used to or still might have for sell original WAC/ Int'nl PHD and parts (auger tips) OEM . I'd try calling them just to see if they have any original point tips laying around and what the damage might be.

Is it possible to snap a few pixs of the PHD boom labels to post here. It would be so much of a help. AutoTechGear can help, but they need more info. Your auger boom has the identical configuration and top 3pt mounting just like mine. I have never seen that before on any PHD.
