Kershaw!!!

Dam do i know you? That place looks like a pond i use to fish back in HIgh school. I dont think it is. The pond i am referring to is the town resivoir.

Just jokeing, i probaly do not know you but know a few folks in the area. My dads family is from up that way. My farm is in Lancaster County.

Your listing says Greenwood, thats nowhere near Lancaster county, I'm just across the Little Lynches river from Lancaster county in Kershaw county.

Back when I was 10 or so (been fishing since I could crawl) went to uncles farm pond with my brother in law and his nephew who is my age at time. any time someone caught a fish the nephew would run over and cast as fast as he could to try and catch some too. Well needless to say my brother-n-law ended up with a fishhook earring & dang near in the pond being yanked off his seat lol...

About 10 years later went camping with my brother and he was worm fishing with a 2/0 or so worm hook. Well he snagged it on something and wrapped the line & pulled it out of the stump. The HOOK snapped at the bend and came out on the line embedded into the back of his hand piercing a vein & pinning the tendon of his middle finger to the bone! The vein swelled up back of his hand in about 15 seconds to look like a baseball under the skin. Our buddy said come on we got to get ya to Doc, he said heck NO put his had on a BIG rock/boulder and grabbed hook w a pair of pliers and wiggled it back & forth to get it loose & yanked it out. The Rock became instantly covered in a pint of red stuff and looked like some sacrificial alter out of the movies...

My worst one was about 9 or 10 found one of the 1/0 or so hooks on a 6" leader in road. Took it down street to my sisters place & hung it on the screen door frame, ten min later same brother chased me out of house and I grabbed frame to swing around corner to RUN and yep was yanked off my feet by that steel leader & 1/0 hook landed on my back w it buried in my hand. Sister got home a few min later and took me to doc to have it cut and pushed down thru around the pinky bone in back of my hand & out of my palm/side of hand...

Bro and I both have had a few other mostly minor piercings but nothing a diag cutter and pushing it thru didn't fix, that pick of two for one hadda hurt. had one hook in about same spot from smallie shacking at side of boat... that was a good hook/lure that I cut off to get it thru & lure never run same with new hook.

I tried to remove it, but with those two fingers (finger and thumb) on my right hand pinned together I didn't have enough control with my left to do it!

They just cut it out at the ER. (if pic is too much I'll remove it)

I've only been hooked once where the barb went below the surface. I had bent the pole around to put another lure on and wham it slipped. It didn't go real deep, just below maybe a millimeter. It hurt but I cut it out myself to back it out. Put a ton of H2O2 on it. Since I'm a machinist, I am always current on my tetanus. needed a stick to bite on. :)

Eric, will you just let the green alien decompose?

All the finger are still attached and no bones showing - the pic just looks like you got messy with a catsup bottle. Sorry, no stick for you on that injury.:doctor:

The largest pile of weed is now the size of a hay stack, so yes, probably easiest to cover it when it's all out and leave it there to decompose over winter.

I learned many years ago that the least painful way to get a hook out of flesh is to squeeze and file off the barb before going fishing. Don't think I've really lost many more fish since going barbless and when I do, I think back to the time my dad got a huge hook in the palm of his hand while we were sea fishing - it makes loosing the odd one no big deal.

So Eric, whats to keep that stuff from growing back to the center of the pond... just the wave action?

I used to do some trout fishing in a catch and release only place, we had to de-barb our hooks for that.

I've been fishing since I was a little kid (big 60 this year) and this was my first ever getting hooked up!

Alien Invasion - I got my pond back - for now

It has been a while since I last pulled out all the remaining floating rafts of Crasula onto the bank. Some was stacked in a pile the size of a small hay rick, the rest left drying on the banks.

This year has been particularly dry, with the water level about a foot below the normal level for this time of year. The dye I added so far seems to be preventing regrowth in the deeper water, although where it is less than 2' of water, some straggly alien fronds are working their way towards the surface. It is easy to lift these out by hand, complete with the roots that have made their way into the mud. I tried dragging a line to snag the weed, however if it is only dislodged, the weight of the mud on the roots soon sinks it again, no doubt to regrow when I'm not looking.

I am now trying to sort the paperwork so I can (legally) introduce some fish. So far I have spoken to officials in two different departments, each of which require a different form. The first department need a form filling to register the pond as a fishery - even though it is not a commercial water. It seems that unless it is "registered", the second department, who are the only ones who can give permission to transfer in fish, will not process any paperwork I send them. Without the paperwork, no one is allowed to supply me with fish.

At least there is no charge, only the risk of a slight loss of sanity on my part and I have at least been able to speak to real people over the phone who, to be fair, have been very helpful. Next it seems an environment agency fishery officer will be ringing me to pay a visit... If you don't see any posts for a while, they will have locked me away for doing something wrong - wrecking the planet, or, even worse, wreckless form filling.

So go fishing somewhere with a 5 gallon bucket for your catch, then accidentally spill it in your pond! BTDT

Oh, the pond is looking good!
