John Deere 820 wont run.

I tried hooking up a battery charger to the tractor to see if it was a voltage problem but it still does the same thing. Im not sure how the shut off works on these tractors there is no selonoid on the out side of the pump like on a piston pump this tractor has a rotary pump. The lift pump is leaking is leaking but it is pumping could this be the problem that it is not pumping enough fuel?

If the low pressure mechanical pump is broken, it's broken . Replace it.

Won't run? Won't crank? Cranks and Won't start ? When did it last run? Did you bleed the fuel system from tank to injection pump? Is there clear unimpeded full flow from tank to injection pump?
Is there a mechanical pull knob or electric shut off ?

Replaced the lift pump but still have the same problem. It will run about five minutes now and die. It also is smoking pretty bad now. I bled all the lines and made sure they are clear of debris and flowing well. So does that mean that the injection pump needs rebuilt?

maybe......................New injectors installed after the pop pressure is verified are recommended. Even if the injectors are not fully at fault they will be worn out .
Valve lash?
Has some ding dong beat the engine to bits by spraying ether instead of plugging in the block heater for winter starting ?
something somewhere plugged in the intake system?
Is there excess crankcase ventilation blowby?
Thinned out crankcase oil diluted with diesel will walk right past the rings and make her smog.

Did you check fuel return line that attaches to inj pump for blockage??

Yes i have checked all lines for blockage took them off and blew compressed air through them but nothing was in them. So that about leaves injection pump and injectors right?

If you're 100% positive that the check valve fitting(parts key 5) isn't plugged then yes inj pump repair is required. As one last attempt to get engine to run before removing IP loosen screws on timing window(parts key 9) and attempt to start engine. Be sure gasket isn't stuck to pump housing. Yes you'll loose a little diesel but IF engine runs a small amount of lost diesel will be nothing compared to $$$$ of pump repair bill.

how do i tell if the check valve is unplugged? I took it off and it does have a lot of stuff in it so i blew it out with compressed air but how do check that it did the trick?

Some tractor owners/technician have removed glass ball & spring. If you loosen timing cover & gasket and engine runs then you'll know check valve MUST BE PLUGGED. Plugging of check valve indicates fiber drive ring is deteriorated in IP and needs to be replaced to avoid costly inj pump failure or worse scenario connecting rod protruding through side of engine block.
