Very smooth hydraulic. I'm still impressed with your homemade BH.

Thanks. It's all mechanical, without electromagnetic valves

Hi BFreaky,
I hope you feel great when you are using your backhoe. Inspirational project, thanks for sharing.

I have just bought a backhoe attachment, ex-Australian army, never used and stored inside in a machinery warehouse for 10 years. But it's configured for mounting on a skid steer and I need to fit it to the rear of my 65hp tractor. So I have to fabricate a subframe for a rigid connection to my chassis.

If I am reading your earliest posts correctly, you made your subframe from 15mm mild steel with M16 high tensile bolts? Is that correct? Was this adequate? If you were starting over, knowing what you know now - how would you do it?

i've added some pics below, any advice you can offer is greatly appreciated,
Thanks, Gus

The chasis strenght depends on the weight of the BH. My backhoe weighs about 1.2 T . I've done some extreme testing pulling out concrete slabs, tree stumps etc and it is still flawless, so yes, for me 15 mm steel plates and M16 bolts do a good job. Try to find out the weight of your BH. It is also very important to make a frame that connects the front and back end of yout tractor. You most certainly don't wat to break you tractor in half...

Thanks BFreaky,
It has a reinforcing subframe from front to rear axle that is installed in association with the FEL.
Ive attached a couple of pics below showing how this subframe attaches to the rear axle.
My thinking was to attach a subframe to the same three bolts on each side, extending to the rear via a welded connection to the rear of the axle fitting to make a rigid lower connection to the backhoe

Backhoe mass is around 650kg, depending on the bucket.
I think the lower subframe is pretty straightforward, it's the connection at the top that gives me some uncertainty. Not sure what combination/profile/thickness of steel to use at the top.
Attached below are:
1. Some pics of the rear of my tractor with my flail mulcher/mower mounter on the TPL.
2. Two pics of the mounting arrangement of the "factory" backhoe from a unit at the dealer's yard (the last two pics).
I'd be grateful for any suggestions.
Thanks,
Gus

I found this pic that uses flat bar and SHS for the diagonal braces.
I could sort of adopt this configuration, but with only one hole at either end of the diagonals, and maybe two lengths of angle (90 x 90 x 8mm) welded together back to back for the upper horizontal arm?

Eric,
I'm not trying to hijack anything, I'm trying to ask one of the only two blokes I've found who can speak from their own direct experience. If Bfreaky was still in construction phase you would have a fair point, but his build was complete back in June and there is no ongoing activity on this thread.
Bfreaky, I'll leave this to you to determine, I certainly had not intended to distract from your brilliant project.
Angus
