interesting, I have an older still working 12V battery I could use, which I put on the charger occasionally.
And....TSC just so happens to have a 10% off sale going on right now. Might wander on down there.
I doubt they sell the fuel tanks. Yes, Craigslist for a used tank, that someone is taking out.
I simply don't know how old a tank is still safe and reliable, so i like the idea of buying new.
bottom line is I have to find out the code. But I really think I want to make this happen because one of these days that can is going to slip and I'm going to get a faceful
of diesel. Been there, done that (on a boat) and really never want to do it again.

RomoTech Poly Storage Tank — Legged Tank, 325-Gallon Capacity | Storage Tanks| Northern Tool + Equipment

now I have to assume diesel fuel has a specific gravity of less than 1.7
they won't say use or don't use diesel, just this spec
poly tank

and yes it is:

HFO Heavy Fuel Oil SG 0.9782 @ 15 °C
HFO Heavy Fuel Oil SG 0.9419 @ 70 °C
Diesel 0.85

Good morning all. 75F this morning ,sunny, light breeze. Forecast for 96F, light wind. ext week there is a chance of rain, like 355 or so. today is bike ride, finish cleaning the Vue and leaf pickup on the back porch. front porch and side drive. Not use to trees dropping their leaves this time of year, hope it is just stress from no rain/heat.

67 going up to 86 today in fair weather. Worked outside most of yesterday afternoon, sprayed all the trees in the orchard and most of the azalea bushes in the front of the house, which had been covered in some grunge. I had sprayed those bushes about two weeks ago and found my custom orchard mix did just fine on the bushes; most of the grunge is gone and new growth is coming out without it. Whatever is in the orchard spray is clearly multipurpose, and is likely on the weak side I think of alternative chemicals to use. Everything I've sprayed with it looks better. Fruit trees have been heavily munched by some bug, lots of leaf loss. I really soaked those trees in spray this time, eat that bugs and go choke on it. Bugs ate 99% of the leaves off a beautiful pin oak tree I had planted last Fall. Healthy, great leaf growth, then chomped, like a deer going through your garden.

Good news is I got my orchard sprayer back yesterday, with a new carb put on under warranty. Pretty sad when you have to replace the carb on a brand new Honda...what is the proverbial world coming to?.... I also went to the JD dealer and got my Yanmar air filters. 20 bucks apiece for the inners and outers. Luckily I have confirmed the Donaldson style filter here is generic and I don't have to buy JD replacements. The inner filter after 122 hours looked brand new; didn't need replacing at all. Outer filter pretty gray, time for it, but that thin tubular inner filter looks/feels almost opaque; how air gets through it eluded me, but then many things do...

My biggest challenge is lifting full five gallon tanks over my shoulders and up on top of the Kubota hood. I can still do it, but it's really hard on me holding it there while I'm fueling. Every time I put diesel in there I dream of a nice nozzle and pump...couple thousand dollars cost in buying the tank, the pump, the fuel filters, and then for sure filling the darned thing. Since I use a lot more fuel in the diesel garden tractor and that's of course easy to fuel, I've been procrastinating. Maybe since I'm not building a big garage back there I'll treat myself to a fuel tank. have a place to call, will ask about zoning/permits/pollution requirements. Whatever I install, if I install, will be to code since I don't want any issues when I go to sell this place someday. this isn't Kalifornia, so I'm not sure about double tanks, retention tanks, etc. If I buy a brand new single wall tank, it sure had better not leak in my lifetime...

I've seen a lot of those diesel tanks with pumps sitting out in the elements uncovered. I might try to put a little roof over it, or if I do build a concrete pad and shed roof back there, which the contractor is coming late today to talk to me about, I might set the tank in the corner on the proposed concrete and where I can get to it from several directions. I spent some time maneuvering the tractor with loader and mower back behind the barn making sure my stakes allowed enough turning room. About sixty feet behind the barn is the main six foot deep ditch. Need to stay off that a bit but want to hide this new building behind the existing barn. Just not attractive versus my looking out the back door at towering pines and the woods.

lots of errands to run, not an outside day for me. Back at it tomorrow. Going to start fairly early tomorrow with the chain saw cutting up lots of small trees removed from the woods for the path to the pond. The unfinished path...so much to do. The area where my woodsplitting operation is/was is exactly where I want the new building to go so time to get all that wood split, and cleared out of there. I don't mind running a chain saw in the 70's; much hotter than that and I don't last long.

have heard nothing back on the boat I'm looking at from the listing broker. Maybe my questions have bothered the seller.
Drew have you ever thought about a tank and pump in the back of your P/U ??

I just had to water my young pecan trees for leaf dropping. :(

That's what I would do...for a couple reasons.
I don't want to keep that much diesel around, personally. Even with a diesel tractor and UTV (both Deeres), 50 gallons would go a few months. Here in the northeast, we do have to consider summer and winter blends....and biocides for long term storage.
I use a 55 gallon drum right now. It's mounted on a small pallet with caster wheels. It's kept in the garage but I'm always concerned about the thing tipping.
I think this one:
Delta Steel Transfer Tank, 50 gal. - For Life Out Here
would be a good choice.
Diesel goes 7.5 lbs per gallons so 55 gallons would weigh 412.5 plus the weight of the tank (and pallet, if mounted on a pallet), so figure close to 600 lbs filled. That's easily within the capability of most tractor loaders with forks.

I just had to water my young pecan trees for leaf dropping. :(
I just dumped 165 gallons on 4 azaleas, a piers japonica, a lilac bush, and about two dozen hostas over in the east side planting bed.

None of them were dropping leaves, but that bed has lots of medium to large tree and they just suck the water out of the ground - it was dessicated ... especially with no mulch.

Some of the transplanted oaks are turning brown and loosing leaves ... but I guess that is to be expected ... transplant shock.

I put in 125 gallon diesel tank last year and very happy with it.
Tank itself was a 125g Chemtainer that I bought for water when building the house. Added a valve, filter, 12v pump and nozzle from HF.
The delivery guy has 100g min, so I wait until tank is near empty and my generator tank (100 g) is about half, so I get around 150g.
Mine is outside, back side of tractor shed, sitting on 16 inch concrete blocks on a slab.
So glad I finally did this :)

EnduraPlas Diesel Fuel Poly Transfer Tank with 12 Volt Pump — 55-Gal., Compact Style, Model# DLC5512V10 | Auxiliary-Transfer Tanks| Northern Tool + Equipment

this looked pretty cool, was small enough the fuel would stay fresh, addressing Roy's concerns, which I understand, 2 year max shelf life
in my experience, and if put on a heavy duty pallet in the trunk of the truck it would lift out easily with forks. Except the tail gate is in the way; no way am I maneuvering around that by myself. I'd have to lift it on a sling I guess; not going to leave it in the truck and haul that unnecessary weight around.
I like this setup, just not sure how to get it out of the truck without dinging the truck. Maybe better to haul it around in the one ton trailer. But I'd still have to lift it with a sling; the trailer won't handle the Kubota's weight.

local marina dockmaster told me he paid 2.09 for diesel yesterday.

Why not take a page out of Roy's book and put the pallet on casters, Drew? Then you could drop it in the bed with the forks, roll it to the front wall, and tie it down with ratchet straps. Pick a nice durable plastic for the rollers, and it wouldn't mar the bed. And you'd be able to move it around the shed without having to use the tractor.
