Some pre-historical southwest droughts:

Collapse: Chaco Canyon

In the period between A.D. 1125 and 1180, very little rain fell in the region. After 1180, rainfall briefly returned to normal. From 1270 to 1274 there was another long drought, followed by another period of normal rainfall. In 1275, yet another drought began. This one lasted 14 years.

Very interesting article. Having grown up in the area (my aunt owned trading posts and I went to BIA schools for the first 7 years) it is interesting to hear history from the Navajo side verses the white mans side. I have no doubt about the droughts, that can be proven, it is the rest of it I find skeptical. All I know for sure is that there is a pinto type bean grown only there called Anasazi beans that are wonderful.

Yep. Al Gore and Yellowstone have everything do with climate change in California. I got a bridge to sell those that believe this.

An excellent example of trying to twist what I said to make a snarky comment. Al Gore had everything to do with the firestorm in Yellowstone when he was VP, and his environmental policy towards leaving the forest as it is instead of doing what could be done to reduce a potential forest fire beforehand. These policies are a big reason California burns like it does every year.

Or where you saying that because of those who follow Al Gore and his policies that have led to so many massive wildfires, the fires can be blamed on man made global warming?

I mentioned climate change being real. You launched into global warming which I did not mention. Then you said climate change is not real. Now apparently you are saying Al Gore changed the climate in California?

I mentioned climate change being real....

Why would you?...Exactly how many people do you know or have heard of that has not realized that climate changes on a number of scales...I would make a prediction that if all the active TBN members were polled...they all would say they have realized some changes in weather patterns from what was previously considered "normal"...

There is no debate that Earth has been experiencing some changes in weather patterns/systems etc...I see no reason to keep bringing it up and like in your post #32...making inane assumptions that anyone that questions the AGW theory does not realize we are seeing some changes...DOH!

Opportunists rely on ignorance and gullibility...up until recently it had been working for the zealous AGW opportunists...The more the ignorant and gullible hear about how NASA and NOAA etc.,etc...convolute, distort and outright lie about WX data...they become less ignorant and gullible...

Eddie, the way a particular national forest is managed varies all over the map from what I've seen. In much of California it's not managed at all, other than to outlaw the use of existing trails and roads for motorized use, and not tell anyone they're closed until they find you on one. There is limited logging going on here, but in other states it seems to be much more wide spread. That and it's not unusual to see crews clearing brush and thinning trees as well, something I don't think I've ever seen here. As you point out, the biggest neglect is happening in the national parks, where fuels are allowed to pile up until the conflagration created with it eventually burns turns everything into powder and sterilizes the soil a foot down. That's got nothing to do with global warming or climate change, but rather to choices made in the budgeting process.

The elephant in the room might be the spread of bark beetles in the western forests, which some attribute to the milder winters we've seen for the past ten years. Apparently cold weather slows them down, but the drought weakens trees to the point they can't fight off the beetle.

Dying California trees raise wildfire risk

Minor uncontrolled brush fires used to flash through the forest , burn off the trash and germinate seeds while just singed the bark on live trees. Now with natural forest fires being extinguished the trash, brush and old dead tree fuel load increases. A fire burns hotter, longer and spreads faster.
Up around Long lac there was a "devastating" forest fire approx 20 years ago. That forest turned into moose browse and blueberry bushes for bears. Now it's an outstanding pine forest that provides mature habitat. It will be ready for harvesting in a couple more decades. If it had not burned it would have been just old rough decrepit forest.

I "brought it up" ONCE and then RESPONDED to others who did not read my post or wanted to get on a global warming bent. Climate change in my mind has to with changes sustaining year after year in certain regions.

Bringing up the subject of "Global warming or Climate change" does hit a nerve on many people. I really think most rational thinking people would agree that there is some kind of change going on in our climate. I don't think that's the debate; the debate is, does mankind cause or contribute to this change? As I stated earlier in this thread, NO. One big eruption from a large volcano emits far more SO2 and SO3 gasses than we could in hundreds of years. Think of all the plant and animal life that dies each day and emits gases. It's pointless to argue, we are going to keep paying for something we can not control until we have a government that admits it's out of our control and the sun controls our climate. I don't see that happening any time soon.:2cents:
