There was a company repaving a road near me. The guy raised his bed to dump into the paver. Tri-axle dump truck. Then when empty took off forgetting to lower bed. He stopped at the next bridge. His company didn't get the contract to replace the bridge though.

My buddy worked for a waste company, they had a driver do similar but only took out power lines and such.

It always baffles me when I hear of a dump truck with the box up taking out a bridge. How can they possibly not notice the difference in the handling with the CofG being sooo much higher than a with the box down?

The box is empty. They forget to lower it after a dump. On my tandem Kenworth the weight of the box is pretty insignificant relative to the weight of the truck. I am always paranoid of doing that and double check especially on the long days making dozens of dumps.

Oh well aware its empty and they forgot to lower it. I just can't imagine not feeling the difference in the truck

You would have to have your head totally up your butt not to notice but surprisingly the truck doesn't hand much different. Sometimes I drive around on my place with the bed up when cleaning it out. Over to the dirt pile to empty the big pieces and then over to to the pressure washer.

I'm not familiar with dump trucks but it would seem that there should be some kind of warning light/signal when the bed is up?

Can't they see in the side mirrors that the bed is up?

I have two dump trucks and they have warning lights if the PTO is left on but nothing for the bed being up. One glance in the mirror and it is very obvious.
