Litter, people are just slobs

Ya, go to San Antonio for Fiesta week. The city needs snow plows to clean up the trash afterwards.

It is not only here though. When I lived in France twenty years ago they had litter laws where it was nearly a $500 fine for dropping a candy bar wrapper. Still there were wrappers laying all over. One day I was walking down the street with a guy and he dropped his candy bar wrapper. I asked him about it and he just laughed and said the laws are for other people.

In our neighborhood it's really not bad but on the County Road where our property is, the amount of litter is staggering. When we move to the property, I'm going to start picking it up, not so that others can continue to do it without repercussions but because I hate looking at it for the 1.5 miles between where I turn onto the road and where our driveway is.

My biggest peeve is related to human waste; i.e., disposable diapers! I can't count the number of times I've gotten out of my truck in a supermarket or Walmart parking lot and seen them laying on the ground where people drop them after changing their kid. I have a dog, and I would no more expect somebody else to clean up after him than i would expect some stranger to feed him.
Unfortunately too many dog owners don't feel the need to clean up after their pets.

More and more lately I see where people have just pulled off the road into a turnaround or woods road and "dropped one" right where everybody else must step around it.

Bravo for throwing it back in her window. Unfortunately she'll just throw it out somewhere else. I just don't get it how people can throw a full fast food bag out the car window like its nothing and there right. These people are just trash themselves. And yes I'd say some throw it in there yard too. Figure it'll blow away I guess.
I'd have gotten her license plate # and gave to police for a litter violation.i would go as far as to appear in court and testify if needed. It seems it's the younger generation doing this but not always. Some people are just trash. I pick it up all the time in front yard along a state route

A good friend of mine who has the ability to run a plate number and find a address, said the next time it happens get the number, and he will get the address where I can deliver it to their front door. I will without question be doing this.

We own 13 rental units. You can't imagine how some people live. There are about three units that are always clean from basement to the top floor but the rest are scary places. In example I walk in the basement to fix water heater and there is a 3 ft high pile of rotting stinking clothes by the washing machine. They have low wage jobs but smoke and drink, have 6 kids and are fat. There is trash outside. Broken toys, furniture etc. I can imagine that is the type of people that would throw trash out of car window. Interestingly many renters drive better cars than I do. I just don't get it. If you ask why we put up with it. We bought the units very cheap in distressed sale, all rented and paying rent every month.

I was getting my morning 2 mile hike in when a guy tossed a lit cigarette at out his window. WSP pulled
him over 1/4 mile down the street. I picked up the still lit butt (this was in fire season), called their dispatch and told them the officer might want my evidence. I was never contacted.

My perfect world would be free from litterbugs... see it all the time. As kids we were taught this is the reason we have pockets and in scouts... pack it in, pack it out or leave it better than you found it.

The hospital spends a lot of time just keeping the parking lots clean... we provide plenty of trash cans.

Not far away is a CNA school for nursing assistants... one day I was picking up and order for a hospital function and see 4 young women in scrubs from the CNA school eating takeout and simply tossing everything out the car window into the parking lot...

I was late so about an hour later I called and spoke the head of the school's nursing program... identified myself and said I would be hesitant to hire anyone from the school based on what I witnessed... the dean said she was grateful and would incorporate what I said into the curriculum as to professional behavior... have never seen a repeat since.

Back to the Hospital lot... in any direction there is fast food and without fail... people will toss bags full of condiments right out the window as well as diapers, etc...

I take pictures whenever possible of the act in progress.

There is a little stream that runs through my property and for some reason I am always pulling out trash... lots of broken glass... again, I just don't get it.

Years ago there was the Michael Landon show Touched by and Angel... one of my all time favorite scenes is when Jonathan sees litter being tossed from a car window and confronts... saying you dropped this... the people inside could care less... as Jonathan turns his back... the car is magically filled with trash to the windows... if only!

We used to come to a nearby lake with kids. The shore was littered with cans and bottles. When the IA bottle deposit law became active in 1990 we used to bring plastic bags and kids spent hours looking for cans to return. They earned significant amount of money that year. The shore was more or less clean within single season. It got somewhat worse lately though because many plastic bottles are not refundable.
