I made a big deal when I saw someone working a fast food job toss trash on the ground... she said they have someone sweep the lot every night???

You know, you don't see the amount of trash receptacles out in the parking lots of fast food places anymore. Mickey Dee's had them even at the drive thru. Not anymore.

The landfill I run is private but we do take a few smalln loads per week to keep them off the roadside. The county rubbish site is 21 miles away so we take them. Sometimes they have household or hazardous and we can't take them. Those loads we photograph and get the vehicle tags in case of them doing the road dump. About 5 times we have caught this.

I don't see why government owned land fills change to dump trash. That is a great way to keep losers from dumping trash along road sides. The local city owned dump charges $40 per ton with a $16 minimum. There is a recycling center that is free, but they only take house hold trash.

It is very expensive to use waste management here in the SF Bay Area for trash disposal... $121 per ton.

The minimum for any item starts at the 1 yard minimum is $30 plus tax...

Yep, that's one I've never understood either. And the extent to which they carry it is also ridiculous at times. There was a time when I was in charge of the police auto pound and when I sent a city owned, marked pickup truck with trash to the city owned landfill, I had to send the money for my driver to pay to dump.

And since the auto pound was considered a commercial facility, I had to pay the city for the city garbage truck to provide a dumpster. So I contracted with a private company to provide a dumpster and come empty it once a week. As you might expect, some members of the city council learned of that and wanted to know why in the world would you be paying a private company to do something we have city crews doing. I sent a written response back that garbage collection fees came out of my budget and the private company charged about half what the city department charged.:laughing: And I never heard any more about it.:laughing:

Growing up I don't remember my grandparents or parents being particularly strict on littering, they were however very strict in having us kids respect other people's property and made certain we had manners in public. I think maybe the non tolerance I have for littering stems from that. I think that there are just so many people today with absolutely no regard for other people's property and are to self centered to see what pigs they are being.

If my Dad had come home from work and saw a piece of trash in the yard, or even one of our toys, we'd have been in big trouble. We made sure we picked up any trash we saw, and all toys were put away when we finished with them.
And to throw trash out a car window?......No Way!
